ISU vs UNI postgame thread

I can agree with that. He is a PF trying to play center with so many fouls on AT early. We just want more P (POWER) in the PF.
he has a very vaild point though... and UNI will never be better than they were under McD... and ISU is young and rising
Ok we shot 32 threes. Not 14. I'd say our threes are a little bit more of our offense than they are for ISU.
I just honestly feel like UNI played a better game, and just was not able to hit the jumpers. Other than Brackins dominating, what did ISU do that was that impressive? I just dont understand why we didn't double him and force ISU to try to hit some jumpers.
Because Jacobson is a pathetic coach and sat JE on the bench a majority of the second half.
Uh...How about winning in overtime on your little home court. Maybe a win against UNI isn't impressive. If that is what you are saying I guess I can somewhat agree but we have to start somewhere.
I think UNI is young and rising as well. Johnny Moran is going to be a flat out STUD. He is only a true freshman. While there has been alot of questioning of on court coaching decisions from coach Jake, I think we can continue to get better, as he has done a tremendous job of landing good recruits. I believe UNI will be back to contending for Valley titles and NCAA births in the not too distant future.
Coach Mac just said that basically at the half when we were 2 for 10 on threes, that he told them to back off of shooting them, and go inside. Normally, we would have shot a lot more than 14.
It's silly to say that "other than Brackins dominating, what did ISU do that was impressive." We didn't have to do anything else. If Jacobsen would have doubled him, you would have seen Garrett with more action, and more open shots from our outside threats.
And, yes, it's inexplicable why Brackins wasn't double-teamed. Also, why you guys didn't utilize Koch more in the 2nd half.
Agreed. UNI is a lot better this year talent wise. Coaching IMO will hold them back.
I know I'm the resident downer on the board, but tonight was a good game to watch. Our offense was running as well as I've seen it in a while, despite the threes not going in. We were playing smart, looking to run the two man game with DG and Brackins (still can't figure out why Jacobsen thought it wasn't necessary to try and double Craig) as well as the dribble drive working at times. My biggest frustration with this team has been offensive ineptitude, but missed shots are a heck of a lot easier to deal with from the post as opposed to ill-advised threes.
Our defense was hurt without Alex in there in the first half, and we had big guys who weren't used to playing defense down low getting in foul trouble. We need to hope we find a big guy next year who can replace what he did, because if Alex does nothing else, he provides a very steadying force with the post defense.
The nice thing is Craig can still get better with his low post moves. He has a sweet close jumper, but if he can learn a few more moves on the block, he'll be near unstoppable.
We need another contributor on offense, though. Whether it's Eikmeier or Vanderbeken, getting that third guy in double digits would be a boon.
Also, the zone defense tonight was nice to see. It was clear that the UNI guards were impatient and that they weren't near as fluid with their set offense. Of their 32 3's, I don't know if many of them were "good" shots.
All-in-all, it was a total swing from the MVSU game. The effort was much better, and the recognition by both the guards and Craig to realize we had a chance to OWN them down low won the game. I know UNI isn't too great, but we won a game where we shot like 14% from behind the arc, which usually won't happen.

You say that yet are still convinced UNI played better? Playing good includes playing smart defense. Craig had 32 and 16. Keep playing good, UNI!
I get that if you are talkinig in general, but I was talking about tonight. He went to the hole with authority. Yes, he went to the hole a few times when he didn't have good position. When the double team came, he needs to be ready to then kick to the open shooter. But overall, not a lot to complain about tonight. Yes, I want to see him string several great games together, but you gotta give him credit tonight...he carried the O in regulation.
I think most at UNI agree with that. Coaching NEEDS to get better. The talent is good, with even better coming in the future.

Nice post. Agree on almost everything, except that we need to replace AT with a post presence next year. I really think that Hamilton can easily fill that role with a year under his PB&J-stuffed belt.
What do you think of Eglseder? He seems like the prototypical Valley player that can succeed in that conference, but would be another Aaron Agnew in the Big 12.
