ISU vs UNI postgame thread

You can see that Wes is going to be way more than just a shooter. That 3 at the end of reg. still dumbfounds me. We need Lucca to whip into shape. I think OSU and Drake look very positive for a win and if we can shoot we can beat iowa. Craig should wreak havok again.
for sure... drake and iowa dont have anyone who can really match up athletically with the same size... idk what OSU has for bigs, but i know CB had a good game vs them last year so unless they got some new guys who are better i expect more of the same

ISU players need to get bigger and stronger. Right now ISU is built like a MVC team.

I love breaking a losing streak and I glad McD got the MVC 0'fer off of his back. Now go beat the Beavers!

Very good win tonight. Especially when the team was not hitting the 3 ball. I loved how well ISU executed the zone. Very impressed with the defensive output tonight.

Zone was decent, but they were slow moving their feet, let too many drives get past them. But a win is a win.

Petey is so clutch.
... smarter than anyone on the court.
... makes very little mistakes.
... and is in the right spot all the time.

Most underrated kid out there. Period.

Petey and Diante compliment each other really well.

Its nice to beat a team when they gave up only 2 TO's on the 1st 40 minutes. And it seemed like they shot a lot of FT's.

Good:

-excellent play by Brackins...and almost all of it was banging down low. MUCH MUCH better rebounding by him too.
-DG in OT was amazing.
-Loved JVB's hustle and D...he makes mistakes but he will learn.
-Good gameplan with the zone and man-to-man mix up
-Didn't have to rely on the 3-ball

Bad:
-Free throws. Enough said.
-WAY too many defensive breakdowns.

UNI didn't shoot well but they only had 2 TOs all game. And we still won.

Wow that was great play by Garrett down the stretch. He is turning into really something special.

Why did we have to wait until OT to see the dribble drive? We need all three factors:
1) Inside presence: Check CB!
2) Dribble penetration with finish (especially when the refs called every minor contact on dribble penetration)
3) Kick-out shooting

We weren't hitting #3, weren't driving #2, so were kept in the game by superman in the middle. We won the game by adding a second factor.

Overcoming the emotion of seeing UNI hit that 3-pointer to tie the game (which didn't look like a 3 to me, I'm sure his foot was on the line) is a good sign that this team is getting mentally tougher. Hopefully they can build on that. Nice win, Clones!

If someone would've told me before the game that we were only going to hit two 3's all game, and that UNI would only turn the ball over twice all game...first I would've laughed in their face, then I would've assumed that we were gonna get killed...good win fellas, way to man up!!

Yeah, but from reading the boards before this game, there is no way Petey should be playing on a D1 team because he is a walk on. (sarcasm)

So some idiot posted about how Mac is the wrong coach for us and it got deleted pretty quick. Im pretty sure he can be banned and not just deleted. If people need to complain that bad this early into the year and after we ended a couple of losing streaks.

If we did that with every poster, there would be a lot of people banned.

Agreed. I'm tired of people bagging on Petey!

I couldn't watch the game... so wanted to know thoughts on Lucca. Is he out of "game shape" or is he just struggling right now getting into his grove? Or do we think all the attention paid to him last year is either adding too much pressure or was he over hyped? I really want him to be a big time player.

Great point.....that was a horrible angle on it, and I think that is the only reason they didn't call it, but his foot looked solidly on the black line.
