ISU vs UNI postgame thread

Though it's not really the case this year, the MVC hasn't been that far behind the Big 12 in basketball. They have fairly consistently been the best of the non-BCS conferences in basketball.

What I don't understand though is why does UNI seem to hate us more than they do Iowa? Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed a lot more vitriol from them towards us. 06Panther, any insight?

Easy. Their coach dumped them for us. We're the "other woman". The homewreckers....

Great win, but what was up with the broadcast? The lighting was horrible and the commentators were complete UNI/Iowa homers. They referred to AT and JVB as "hawkeyes" whenever they made a play and made condescending remarks about ISU's football team whenever an ISU player made a good play. In fact, the complete lack of professionalism in the broadcast was enough for me to mute the television and turn on the radio.

I live in Waterloo/Cedar Falls, and I can tell you that most UNI fans are Iowa fans as well. This probably explains the hatred toward Iowa State.

As far as UNI being a rival, I do think we should consistently beat them year in and year out. They cannot recruit guys like Brackins or Colvin, Fizer, Tinsley, ect. The last few years we just have not had the depth and experience, nor the talent to beat them. I really believe this is the last year for teams like Drake and UNI to have a chance to beat us before we go back to dominating them again.

I just listened to the post game interview with McD. One thing he said was "after some disagreement and discussion with Diante about what kind of shot he should be taking in this game, he came out and used his dribble drive in the second half". That might not be the exact quote, but it was something like that. I watched Diante chucking 3s up in the first and I told my wife that that wasn't his game and he needs to quit that unless he is just left wife open. I'm glad to see McD makes these kinds of adjustments and helps the players play the game that works for them.

Totally agree. I thought something was wrong with my TV. I kept adjusting the colors.

And they did make several hawk remarks about AT and JVB. Then there was the stiff arm by Haluska where one guy says "maybe he can show the football team that move after a 2-10 season".

Terrible game call.

I was impressed with UNIs play last night. I thought, at times, they out played us and that isn't a bad thing against our guys. This might be the best game UNI puts on the floor without making shots. I attribute them not making shots to our aggressive zone D.

I have thought this for some time, but UNI puts their best early season game together for us. I am a big fan of Jacobson, but it was clear last night that McD is the better coach. Would I take BJ as an assistant at ISU, HELL yes. Ben is having a hard time following up McDs success there and it shows in conference wins and NCAA appearances. This game made me believe in McD even more, that we have the right guy.

CB: Great game out of you. Now, get into game shape... you looked like your game shape is 30 minutes... we need you to be in shape for 50.

DG: Whow.... keep that dribble drive thang going. It is fun to watch. I would like to see more urgency, at times, in pushing the ball up (see last 4 seconds of reg).

Petey, Adam, Wes and Lucca: you guys are fun to watch.. love the hustle, love the effort. Please keep that work up.. and we just need one of you each night to find a stroke.

AT: Sorry it was a quick night for you. I LOVE your improvement on the offensive end. Keep that head up... you will be one on one most nights in the Big12.

Everyone else: tip of the hat.... we got over the late lead on the road slip away hump! Keep it rolling!

-keep.

I don't know about the play by play guy, but Mac McCausland (color) is typically the color commentator for Iowa basketball. Its no surprise he's a huge hawkeye homer. I couldn't listen to their crap anymore, it was one of the WORST commentating brodcast I have heard in a long time, (probably since the last time I had to listen to McCausland commentate a ISU game) very unprofessional, but honestly, it was about what I expected.
I muted them and I listened to Walters on the radio instead, much better :notworthy:

I totally agree, McCausland is about as bad as it gets and the guy doing play by play sounded like some guy who does HS games. Horrible! Also noticed the jabs they both made at times regarding Iowa and the ISU football team, but what do you expect, McCausland is an Iowa homer.

Yay, 500 posts!

McCausland's son played for Iowa, right? He's a dbag. I don't know that other guy, but he's a dbag as well. Terrible voice and an iowa/uni homer.

Speculation and what ifs. Simple fact is we beat you on your home floor. Comes March a win is a win and a loss is a loss.

Because they're all hok fans???

I was at the game and here are my thoughts:

- great game between two very good teams.
- Iowa State has a much bigger swagger about themselves then in the past. (No one on the corner...)
- Craig Brackins is a game changer. Glad to see him just TAKE OVER an entire game and hope to see him do it at other big games farther along this year.
- DG looks great coming off a pick and roll. Just looks natural when after he either dishes, drives, or pops a jumper.
- Great to see the long ball is not needed to win (in fact UNI needed it more to win)
- We do need to work on our overall ball handling AND help defense.
- JVB can swat!
- The refs got booed some by both sides, but overall called a pretty fair game and made the makeup calls when needed for both teams.
- McDermott likes to go REALLY far onto the court whether its during play or not. Just looks like he could jump in there and slam it down after an O rebound.
- UNI fans (I was there with my roommate who is one and went out on the hill with a bunch of my friends here in CF after the game.) Almost all of the Panther faithful were classy and made a great college basketball atmostphere. UNI also has some funny and interesting timeout entertainment/games. Panther fans are also really good at making paper airplanes and getting them onto the court as well, lol.
- hawk fans are dumb. I can't escape stupid hawk comments even at a UNI VERSUS IOWA STATE GAME! I had to listen to terrible couple people there in hawkeye gear  yelling about how garbage Craig Brackins is and used the N word among other things when they wanted someone to guard him. I just turned to them after the game said "32 and 16 yeah, must be garbage" :skeptical: Cannot wait to beat them Dec. 12
- The McCleod Center is an awesome smaller venue and gives UNI a loud, intimidating atmosphere, leaps and bounds better than games in the UNI dome. (The only thing I wish is they didn't charge so much for this game, it would have been nice to see it FULLY packed.) I look forward to returning there at least a few times later this year to cheer on the purple and gold.
- Cy is the coolest mascot ever, but you already knew that.

That one is hard to fathom, even for Hawk fans. Is it still the 1950s? Good grief. Stay classy, Herky.

holy crap are you drinking the Kool-Aid!

I love, love ISU...but both of those teams last night will finish the season with bad records.

I had a client start throwing around the "N" word like it was no big deal a few weeks ago. He has Hawkeye vanity plates. Stunning.
