He is offensive minded because of the NBA influence he has, and that is what he brings. Just need another Doc or get the Monstars to steal Babbs defensive skills and distribute it among the whole team!

We aren't good on defense compared to a lot of other teams... But one of the cornerstones of Fred's defensive strategy is to force opponents to take low percentage shots. Technically, that means leaving open someone on the three point line occasionally.
The unfortunate thing is, more often than not the person we leave open has been knocking that shot down this year.

Wow. This comment is awful. We tried to attack the inside the whole game against Baylor and that would have won us the game if we played 3 point defense.
This. 5 times teams have shot >10% above average against us. The other 10 times they have shot average or below average. A game is such a small sample size too where one extra 3 pt basket can drastically change the %.
Also, how do some of the other teams around us compare (like OU)?
That said, its clear we don't put enough emphasis on defending the perimeter.
I get that this is largely due to poor 3 point defense. Seemed last night we were trying to shut down Gathers & dare them to hit from deep. Unfortunately, they did. But I do remember 1 instance of Hogue being right in Cherry's face, yet he still drained the trey..
I doubt that was the only well defended 3 they made last night. What else can we expect in that particular situation? It's not like they can straight up block every one..

I find it weird that everyone around here buys into isu's 3's and lay ups offense, and then some of the same people say defensively allowing 3's makes sense.

Especially when Gathers is on the bench, which he was for the majority of the 2nd half barrage.

2013-2014 ISU - 99.9 points allowed per 100 possession, 72nd nationally
2014-2015 ISU - 98.2 points allowed per 100 possessions, 94th nationally
Non-adjusted defensive efficiency, via BBState:
2013-2014 ISU - 100 points allowed per 100 possessions, t-101 nationally
2014-2015 ISU - 97 points allowed per 100 possessions, t-106 nationally
So, basically the same as last year. Stats have been slightly better this year, but they've seemingly been better for everyone, so the rank among all teams hasn't improved.

The question is will Fred address this by changing defenses once in a while or will he just expect these guys to learn to play defense over night. I wish he would at least get McKay to stop leaving his man every time to block a shot leaving his man for easy put backs.
At some point you have to stop doubling on every possession and stay with the shooter.
AdjD is better across the board this year since the NCAA went away from the rule changes that were made for last year.
Perhaps, but if that team shoots 3s because they have too (I'd expect a 14 isn't strong both inside and outside) wed probably not have trouble down low and be able to stay with them better from outside. I hope anyway
