In Gilstrap's defense, he's had to learn the 4 position on the fly with Dendy out. The guy spent all preseason as a 3, and now he's thrown into a completely new role the last few games.

He's going to be fine. He's rebounding is great, his D is improving, and once Dendy is back that will help. Also, he really seems to be getting hacked and not getting many calls.

I would caution over getting too excited following this one. The Clones certainly shot the ball unbelievably well, which is a great sign, but lets not forget that IUPUI put up 88 against Drake in their only other game this year. Lucca may have shot lights out, but he also spent a lot of time guarding a freshman who scored over 20 pts for Drake.

Nevertheless, without a doubt the best team Mac has had at ISU, no contest.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I was very happy that we won but honestly, I didn't learn a ton about our team tonight. The only thing we know is we're improved and much more athletic. How will we stack up against Big 12 caliber competition? I have no idea at this point.

Finally got a chance to get online and find out what happened tonight.....VERY PLEASED with what I've read. Lucca was the man - how many people on this Earth can say they've hit 10 treys in a Div.1 basketball game before (on the opponents floor you've never played)? :notworthy: Willoughby was the man and to be able to 1 up his record - well that deserves some serious credibility in my book. I'm very happy for Lucca and I hope he keeps getting better.

Also got a chance to watch the highlights on cyclones.com and I honestly don't remember the last time I saw such good passing.....very quick, precise and confident passes from what I could see and that just makes scoring so much easier. :yes:

I love the running, I really love running basketball, but it was great to see that we could light up the scoreboard on a night when that wasn't there.

This is an intelligent and gifted team. When Drake started to press the three-point defense with more intensity, we simply introduced them to Mr. Brackins, who lit them up. There was no answer for what we put out there, with Gilstrap ill and still making adjustments, Hamilton in foul trouble, and no Dendy.

These guys are loaded, and now they're showing that they can win running or running the halfcourt offense. This is going to be a fun year!

I think Dendy is a game changer down low. He blocks shots, Gets garbage buckets and rebounds. Not having him on the road hurt and we still could have hung 100 on Drake. IUPUI also played Drake without Young in the Lineup. Also...Drake is a hard team to play. They just do things wierd.

100-110 points, I think. My gut tells me that he gets something going, and we get running, at which point those young guys they have get rattled, and things get crazy.

As it is, this game was a blast, and I love to watch them.

Hats off to Drake. I'll be cheering for them all year long.

The guy that wowed me the most tonight was Garrett. He set the tone early in the first half how we would play on the defensive side of the ball. I listened to the pre-game show and Coach Mac talked about how he wanted us to win by scoring inside - DG waited for those opportunities to develop, which they didn't early on, but he wasn't afraid to take a few inside and draw the double team off of Brackins. You can tell how much Garrett has matured and he's starting to make me think that Colvin may not see as many starts at the PG position that I thought he would before the season started.

Really, the odd man out at PG looks to be Buckley, which is a little surprising considering how much he was supposed to have improved in the offseason.

He's so solid that he could contribute a lot. I think he's in a tough spot with the hard-charging Colvin.

I was pleased, almost surprised at the way we played last night. Marquis played hard even though I don't think his game was totally on offensively. Colvin apparently came in a little out of control at first, but settled down quickly enough to play smart later in the game. We've finally got a good arsenal of offensive weapons, and we're also showing that we're able to get to the ball to those people when they're feeling it, whomever they are on a given night

I was initially concerned about a let-down due to this being a third game in five days, our first road game, and recent history with the Bulldogs. I did finally plunk down some credits on us, but I wish I would have manned up and went all in.
