ISU-UNI POST game thread

Also, does anybody actually like the Cyclone Power warm-up and the crappy leaning routine? Maybe I'm just ranting and venting but I just hate how high-school pep-rally feeling it is.

I don't get mad when they play sweet caroline...I'm just embrarassed. It's so bush league.

Jeremy, love your sight, love your view points, but you're drinking the kool-aid a bit too much for me tonight...

I've missed 4 home games since 1989, and I won't be coming back for a while. It was a waste of time tonight. Horrible. Embarassing. A joke. Longest 2 hours of my life at the end.

The leaning stuff yes. But not when Jeff tells us to - the student section does it on it's own anyways. Not to mention Jeff was way slow on it - he'd be saying 'I' after the student section had already said it....

Time to regroup. Time to figure out how to win. I hope that Chizik reads this, and I hope that he's up late at night trying to save his job and the season.

I should have started my college fantasy football this year. I don't think I can care anymore about this team. I mean apparently there isn't anything to hope for this season, right?
We should expect a blow out next week right?

And really how can they compete in the big 12 this year?

I just am down on this team now, and disappointed because they are about the only way I can really get into the games. They are the only team I really follow. I guess I could bandwagon it with Mizzou.

I am out of here. Jeremy don't get too frustrated with people venting tonight, they just need to get this out of their system.

I'm in favor of some form of organized cheer before the game. Get enough people on the same page and it can be really intimidating... examples: "BOOMER...SOONER" "TEXAS...FIGHT" made me sink a little lower last year. I wouldn't be opposed to changing the words though... I was watching the VT game last week and noticed a split -field "LET'S GO...HOKIES" chant, and thought, "Wow. That would actually work really well for us"

I love Cyclone Aerobics. I wish we could get more than just the student section into it. Seeing 50,000 people rotating in unison would be rather disorienting, something like "SAW VARSITY'S HORNS OFF" at A&M.

Yeah, that annoys me too a little. I also get annoyed at basketball games when we're going on a run and the other team has to burn a timeout-the crowd is going crazy, and then they put the dumb applebee's apple shuffle on the scoreboard to kill the environment.

I doubt he job is in jeapordy just yet... but you can bet he isn't thrilled with whats happening right now and will be trying to figure it out

Believe me, I'm as dissapointed as anybody, I just have to be positive because I really think things will change, just maybe not this year. I've said, we could go winless but when has being a Cyclone fan ever been without dissapointment:)

You know, I'm a Cyclone, Colts, Cavs, Suns and Bears fan so I have had my share of dissapointment over the years. I can't say I've ever been a very happy guy when it comes to sports but I also realize that the program needs us more now than they've probably ever needed us. Even with that type of performance tonight, we need to show up and support our team or we're ensuring our fate won't be what we'd like it to be.

Wow. cycloneinmonaco, either take a chill-pill, or go to bed. Seriously. We're two GAMES, not years, into the Chizik era. I seem to be rather impressed, or not, by the third year of a coach at the school. Ferentz went 1-10 and 3-8, and Stoops had two sub-par years at Oklahoma before he did anything significant.

Minor correction, Stoops was 7-5 in his first year at OU and went to a bowl. I believe he won it all in his second season at OU.

As another member of the local media has said recently....I'm going to echo his sentiments. Perhaps McCarney was a better coach than we thought, but a worse recruiter than we thought. A lot of players on our squad are not Big 12 level talent. It may be that we have already gotten all that we can out of these guys, and that Chizik and staff just aren't able to get any more out of them.

Well I guess that's better when they do the stupid smile camera thing:) I know it makes money but it get's annoying when they always seem to do it when we least need it.

Oh well, there's always something to look forward to and something to complain about. You can't make everybody happy all the time and I'm just glad we're finally bringing in some money for future changes.

Same damn team as we saw last year....

Yes, it is. I wasn't expecting miracles, but I did expect to beat Kent State and UNI. I was expecting an infusion of toughness, discipline etc. to this team. I am not about to throw GC under the bus, because I think DM is responsible for the lack of talent in the program. I also believe that DM should have been canned after the unbelievable collapse at the end of '02. That said, weren't we all thinking that we would compete for the North in '06 with Meyer and Blythe? What happened???

I am just now coming to grips with the notion that I may never live to see good football at ISU.

You're probably right, they need us now more than ever...but it still is 0-12. What's funny, is because our amazing home schedule this year, the attendance will "look" great. We won't truly know dis-enchanted everyone is until late in the year...

Kent St. - first game of Chizik era, huge crowd
UNI - in state game, largest crowd ever
Iowa - will be full, Iowa game, enough said
Texas - its Texas, good crowd
Oklahoma - ditto
Kansas St. - Nov. 3rd will be the first time we really find out what types of crowd to expect in the near future.
Colorado - over/under fans is 24,500

You know, looking back it becomes more obvious that this really is where we should expect this team to be.

Last year, just a few plays from winless.

The two seasons before that, just over .500 with the "soft" schedule from the South division and a North as bad as it has ever been. And these teams folded with something big on the line.

The season before that, 2-10.

And for all the talent we think we have, we replaced an awful o-line full of seniors with an inexperienced line, and looking at last year and two games this year, is Meyer really that great of a QB? We should probably still have the horses to hang with UNI, but the truth is we need some serious rebuilding. I don't think we have had a truly good football team since Seneca graduated. I think we have just been benefactors of everyone crumbling around us enough to hide our own shortcomings.

But for as bad as tonight was, I still feel a lot better about the future than I did sitting through last season. Just hang in there Cyclone fans.

Man everybody relax. Barry Averez didn't win a game his first year, Macs recruiting class of 4 years ago turned out to be a disaster. There isn't much talent left to coach, give Gene and staff time. it will happen.
