ISU T-Shirt idea

Re: Amer

As a Cyclone fan, I've always appreciated that the Hawkeye football team took it upon themselves to declare that "America Needs Farmers" even though it is Iowa State that produces farmers and actively works to their betterment. I think it's a magnanimous gesture on the U of I's part.

In that spirit, I suggest Iowa State return the favor by adding helmet stickers promoting a specialty of the University of Iowa's. I have a suggestion:

America Needs ***hole Lawyers

I think this could catch on.

Was probably funny before our recent rash of problems with the law.

I don't understand people getting all bent out of shape over Iowa using that ANF logo. Hell, it started 20+ years ago by Fry. They bring it back and some of our fans are all upset. Get a grip guys.

I personally am not really "bent out of shape." It's not like I walk around seething about it. But that doesn't change the fact that it's about as transparent and shameless a gimmick as you'll find, from a school that does nothing for farmers and frankly, whose fan base mocks farmers pretty mercilessly.

But that's par for the course from the U of I and sadly, we've come to expect that.

I agree... We should just add it to our helmet along with the american flag, so their fan base cries about how we copied them.

This.

This thread is actually pretty funny. I've never seen an innocent "non-bent-out-of-shape" original post get blasted so often for coming off as being "bent-out-of-shape" about something.

I agree. I was impresed that Iowa first put those stickers on way back in the Fry era. And I don't mind that they brought them back. I was proud of them then and I'm proud that they have them again now. It's good to make a fine statement about farmers in a proud farm state like Iowa.

I do kind of wish that Iowa State would have thought of it first. And I'd go as far as saying that maybe we should actually unite with our in-state rivals on this good cause and put the very same "ANF" stickers on the Cyclone helmets. And maybe UNI should put them on as well.

It's fine for us to disagree with Iowa on most things but to begrudge them for supporting farmers is a little embarassing to me. Supporting farmers is one thing the two schools should be able to agree about.

I agree that the ANF sticker would be appropriate for a Cyclone helmet and was a great idea from the Hayden Fry era. The question I'm asking myself today- is this really a cause anymore? This came out during the 80's farm crisis and seems the movement to save the small to medium sized independent farmer has been decided.

which way?

I know the ANF stickers on iowa's helmets is a topic that has shown up on this board a few times but I think ISU should come up with something to fight this or to point out the hypocrisy.

I recently heard that Iowa is selling shirts that says "America Needs Farmers" on it, so what if ISU sold shirts in cardinal and gold that says "ISU Provides Farmers" or "Ames Provides Farmers"

Good idea? Bad idea?

I don't think anyone would understand the slam (outside of people reading this message board).

Why stop at t-shirts? Why not banners over University Blvd? Or changing to 'Iowa State University of Science and Technology and Farmers'? Or planting the many ISU fields around the area to say 'We be Farmers'.

ANGL- America Needs Gays and Lesbians In honor of being America's third gayest city! Maybe some rainbow stickers would be more appropriate for an Iowa City based football team.

I couldn't rep you but great idea. Iowa supports our ag-based programs and we support them in their ongoing quest to continue to be the Midwest's mecca of LGBT populations. It would also support our state's stance on the marriage issue, perfect fit!

C'mon guys. Let's not get this banished to the cave...

There's nothing wrong about these posts. Why would they be banished to the cave? ANF was a political statement in support of small to medium sized farms and was appropriate to the time.

It is my view that ANGL would also be appropriate to today and in no way is it offensive to the gay/Lesbian communities...
