It may be too early to despair - I didn't see the last game, but on the audio we didn't do well. Hopefully CBF had a good week. Historically Drake is well prepared, well coached and more enthusiastic for this matchup and has upset ISU more than once. Drake averages 80 ppg and ISU has 64 ppg. Drake gives up 79 ppg and ISU yields about 64. Drake shoots a little better (45%-39%) - I expect us to seek points in the paint. With our front line talent and some ability to drive - this should happen.

We plan to be there (been to the last several ISU vs. Drake at the Knapp). Hoping for an ISU win, but I think Drake will give us all we want and maybe a little more ?

They lost by 14 @ Wyoming. I wouldn't be surprised if someone on the staff has a chat with Heather Ezell (Wyoming assistant) about Drake.

This is another game we SHOULD win: Drake's best win (based on last season's year-end RPI) was #145 Milwaukee, and their worst loss is #193 George Mason. Our worst loss is #52 UNI and our best win is #74 Tulane (barely ahead of #77 USD). Still, we definitely are working through some issues and Drake is a tough place to play, even with a bunch of ISU fans there.

Will be watching and hoping we look better cause Iowa is coming to town in one week. Watched Iowa and #12 Florida State last night. Hawks lost 94-93. At one point they made something like 13 shots in a row. Of course that didn't last but they looked really good. Hawks maybe all offense but I think Megan Gustafson will easily be the best player we have seen this year so far. That and Tania Davis is back full speed and ahead of schedule from ACL. I know everyone likes to make fun of Bluder but she has a really deep, talented and young team.

So far everything is a slog offensively. There are few breaks or transition opportunities and once in the halfcourt there is not very much player, or ball, movement. We rarely get closeouts to attack or the defense scrambling.

Boxster,

That's a pretty high scoring affair for a women's game. Did U of I play any defense?

Defense? Not so much but it was pretty entertaining. Florida State has been scoring 100 a game, albeit against lesser foes than Iowa at IC. First half was insane and fast paced. Pretty much everything Iowa shot went in but FSU kept pace although they trailed until just before the end.

Some great individual stats:

Shakayla Thomas
FSU - F
31 PTS, 10 REB, 2 STL

Megan Gustafson
IOWA - F
34 PTS, 9 REB, 3 AST

I don't follow the Hawks so I don't know if the announcers were theirs or Big 10 channel but they did good job from the booth. Did not make my ears bleed or anything as a non-fan of the two teams. Learned stuff about both teams while listening.

While buying tickets for this, I saw they're doing a "White Out" for this game. It always struck me as odd to run promotions like these when there should be a decent chunk of visiting fans.

I think the ladies will have their hands full tonight. Hope they come away with the W.

Brenda VanLengen was the analyst.

In short, my take is I expect us to be the underdog in these games (Drake,Iowa). If we lose to all three in-state teams, I have to consider that our program will not be considered Iowa's premier program. Then, Bluder and Warren are Bill's equal or better. I'll be happy to win one of these bouts and elated if both.
