Lets face it folks our days in the Big XII are limited, get ready to be the punch line to hawk degenerates near and wide.

Really our only hope is that JP and President Geoffroy create some kind of pack with Kansas, KSU and Mizzou (if Mizzou gets left in the cold). Otherwise our Athletic department is toast. Basketball can not/will not be the driver of revenue no matter how many games we win...unless of course Hoiberg is the next Wooden. The powers that be need to be proactive, there is much more to lose than just a conference affiliation.

Does this whole mess remind anyone else of all the fake Big Brother alliances?

Then leave. Get the hell out of here. I'm really getting tired of the constant doom and gloom of some fans. I'm an Iowa State fan, I won't tolerate being the punch line of any hawkeye. ISU is not going to cease to exist. In no way, absolutely no way, are we a dead man walking. The mere fact that you believe that to be possible just amazes me.

I agree with this guy.

I'll be glad to, the possibility still remains if ISU is not in a BCS conference football ticket sales will drop dramatically. Other sports will likely be dropped dont forget that we are working our way off of assistance from the state. I'm not happy about this but I am a realist, so while some choose to bury their heads in the sand, I like to prepare myself for heartache.

Once again our AD and president need to look long and hard about creating some kind of alliance with KU, KSU and MU. Those who sit and wait also serve.

We survive on a grand total of 1.2 million dollar of assistance from the state. You honestly think that if we are not a member of the power football conferences, then ISU athletics will no longer exist? Honestly?

My suggestion is to get out before the entire building collapses. Create our own conference. A one school conference. The Iowa State Conference. And demand the winner of the conference get an automatic bid to a BCS bowl game and NCAA tournament every year.:jimlad:

One thing is certain, this situation has shown how many "fans" really feel about ISU.

understanding where we fit in the money dominated world that is NCAA football and our love and devotion to ISU are too VERY different things. You can think that ISU is a GREAT school that provides good education and entertaining sports and still be open to the fact that the rest of the NCAA money DOESN'T CARE.

Honestly do you think ISU football will average over 20k if we had to play a MAC conference schedule? If ISU averages 40k now and loses 20k tickets per game at say 50 per ticket. Thats 6 million dollars and thats not including merch sales, parking and concessions, so now add in the 1.2 from the state, 7.2 million dollars...do you think annual donations of 6 million per year will still stand, no...thats a lot of trouble. I think my point is justified.

All this does is confirm that without support from with-in, one will not have support from the outside. For anyone to have a high opinion of ISU, the state of Iowa must have a high opinion of ISU. Years of those in position to influence and dictate the state of Iowa's perception of ISU has taken its toll.
Heck, ISU never has had a string of 20 years of futility that Iowa did before Fry. If ISU gets its Fry, problem solved.

Do you write for the Rag? Lots of worst case scenarios portrayed as the truth.
Honestly do you think ISU will ever play a MAC schedule? Given accuracy is not a priority, why not assume ISU averaged 56K last year (instead of the more realistic 48K)? Maybe weak fans like you would stop going, but there is no way any university would see a 50% drop in tickets.
Also, recent seasons indicate there are many more factors than just who we play that dictate attendance. Heck, we have had more fans for Kent State than when we played MU for a chance to go to the Big 12 title game.
