Do you think CSP would be getting fired right now if he had taken a 4 year McKinley Wright versus Wiggington?

i think if things would have turned out like they thought, two years ago would have been Lindell and shayock’s team, last year would have been THT and lard’s team, and this year would be tyrese’s and George’s team, with two years of foster, along with Hunter coming in next year to take over as a sophomore after tyrese finished his 4th year as one of the most popular players in Iowa State history

Even great recruiters are only right about 50% of the time. So to name a couple misses as evidence of TJ being a mediocre recruiter is naive.

Heck look at Duke & Coach K. They recruit ONLY McDonald's AA players and basically go with a 7-8 player rotation. They have 3-4 elite HS players who sit at the end of the bench barely sniffing PT. Same goes for Self, Williams, Calipari, Boeheim, Izzo, McCaffrey, etc.
Agree with your overarching point, but wtf to the bolded?!

But then they signed another combo guard in McNeil as well.
Yep, and that worked out so well... certainly not defending Prohm's overall program failure; was just commenting on the "hindsight" issue on that one. It's not like Wright was considered a top get at the time - he ended up at Colorado. (Yes, I know Prohm has ISU <<< Colorado a this point. That doesn't make Colorado a great destination.. hurts to think about how far we've fallen.)

Wright actually committed to Dayton and Archie Miller before ending up at Colorado

What really pisses me off about the Wigginton vs Wright debate is the notion that it had to be one or the other. The guys don't play the same position. Maybe they had some beef with each other. It doesn't matter either way, just pisses me off that it's debated which one was the right choice when I struggle to understand why we couldn't have both.

Heck, even as a soph, people were trying to pretend LW could be a PG. It was 100% a choice of taking 1 PG by the staff, Wright wanted to committ, Prohm opted for LW/McNeill, each higher rated at the time. Tough to blame him, if McNeill wasn't in the mix, it may have all gone down different.

In hindsight, no one should have expected LW to be a PG, he didn't even play that position on his high school team. I get that can happen but it didn't even take 1 game to see that Lindell was never going to be a PG. I think its fair to say the staffs evaluation of how his game would translate was a bit off.

Lindell’s only position at the nba level is point guard. Any school he went to was going to have to let him play the point. And most schools will make those sacrifices for top 40 talent.

plus it was a question as to whether or not he could recruit at this level.

I thought one of Prohm's strengths pre-ISU was considered he was good evaluator/developer of guards — you'd think he would've had a better handle on assessing Wig as SG, and not PG material. Or maybe his strength in that area is less than was touted.

I agree, that's probably how they had to recruit him, . It is interesting that McNeill was listed as SG and LW was listed as PG, McNeill played PG at Cal, LW was a SG at ISU. I wouldn't be surprised if the staff saw McNeill's potential to play PG as well, so that could be another reason they passed on Wright.

It's fun to look back at some of these recruiting story lines but Wright being here probably doesn't change much, it could have even been a negative. It may have been tougher to get the lottery pick PG Prohm signed the next season if Wright were here. Not to mention, they still filled out that class with Shayok and Jacobson.

Matt Coleman was the pg on that oak hill team. LW wasn’t going to start over him there.

For those of us that can't come out here all that often anymore, can someone give this list with the school, and possibly first names? I have no idea who Smith, Moser, etc and don't have time to look them all up. Help?

Right, this is all being taken way of context with Wright. Only a talking point because he's the only one out of LW/Haliburton/McNeil still playing college ball, literally the only one that COULD help our team this year. But with Wright maybe we still get Hali, but we get him for all 4 years because he plays his first 2-3 years behind Wright...lol this topic just keeps developing layers....

Realistically, the only way tj won’t be the coach is if he says no.

but there’s nothing else to talk about since the program is so bad, there are realistic dream lists people are coming up with because someone mentioned them on here.

Craig smith is at Utah state
Porter moser is at Loyola of Chicago

CyHawk1605 must be a big fan of yours. Or just a weird stalker.

That was just the send-off into the covid quarantine we all needed.

If only everything had been shut down a few hours earlier, no 20 loss season and TLEW avoids a highlight/lowlight that will live in CF lore for years.

I voted Keep Prohm.

Regardless of the pre-Covid Trajectory, I don't think firing a coach during a Covid season is good for the long term of the program (optically or financially) I say, suck it up, give it another year and make a decision after next season.

Just my onion.

I literally am on my way to pop popcorn to read the melt down reactions to this post.
