If you ask any college coach or player, their main goal is to make the NCAA tournament and then advance in the NCAA tournament. Regular conference season titles are nice because it shows you were consistent throughout the year. Conference tournament titles are nice, but teams can get hot and win 3 games in 3 days without having a good season as a whole. The NCAA tournament is what it's all about. The best teams in the country are in one tournament and winner takes all.Yeah wrong Iowa fan in my reply.
Of course a conference tournament title is more valuable than winning just one game in the dance. 30+ teams win a game in the dance every year. Only 6 teams win a major conference tournament a year. That's an easy one.
My bigger point though...
I was quoting an Iowa fan trying to parse the difference between winning the Big Ten and winning the BTT as if he knew how it felt. Maybe he's in his 70s and has a very good memory.
Heck even ISU fans are now 20 years away from knowing what both regular season and tournament titles feel like, even though they have the boatload of conference tournament hardware those back to back regular season B12 titles are getting distant.
I will say that winning the conference outright and not sharing it, winning the B12 tournament, then going to the Elite 8 and finishing ranked 3rd in final polls was awesome.
Winning conference outright without sharing it, but then flaming out in the B12 tournament and NCAA tournament takes the shine off that regular season outright championship. Deep Big Dance success matters above all, winning one game isn't some amazing thing. Season conference title vs conference tournament is a nuanced argument, sometimes the conference title is shared with a team that whooped your *** or even shared by 3-4 teams, in that case the tourney could be more valuable.
Just lending you some perspective if you memory isn't fresh from Iowa's 1979 Big Ten title.

Guys who are dinged up literally sit out conference tournaments rather than play to make sure they are healthy for the NCAA tournament. Every single player would skip the conference tournament if they had to choose between playing there or the NCAA tournament. Nothing is "expected" anymore. We've seen a 1 seed lose now. Parity is at an all time high and there are no guarantees once you are in the dance. You only think that way because Iowa was bad for two decades prior to the last two years.
It's easy and common for good teams to make the tourney and win one game.
It's more rare and more difficult to win the conference tournament.
Winning a major conference tournament means you beat at least a good team or two. Winning a single game in the dance if you have a good seed really isn't some grand thing, it's expected.
NCAA means more than conf tournament but winning a first round game is commonplace for programs that don't suck.
Just following the convention that the Hawks here have put on ISU's football season and awards because "Co-Vid" 20-21 are always going to be mired. Why the asterisk?

You finished third in your conference. Let's settle down with this "great season" talk.

Fans want Prohm fired and he won two of them. You aren't even making senseISU fans seem to think that Conference tournament are the only thing that determine how good a team and coach are.
I will go on record before Iowa begins play in the Big10 tournament. If Iowa gets bounced on Friday, I won't care. If Iowa wins the Big10 tournament I will be happen they won games, but I won't notch it as some accomplishment for this team or coach. Well nevermind I will act like it is some huge deal on this site because ISU fans seem to think that Conference tournament are the only thing that determine how good a team and coach are.

Lol Fran is like 100 years old and has never made the Sweet 16 or won a P5 conference title. Just because Prohm isn't good doesn't mean your unsuccessful coach is betterExactly, Prohm sucks as a coach, Fran > Prhom by a long shot.
going 0-19 in conference play pretty much sets the standard for suckLol Fran is like 100 years old and has never made the Sweet 16 or won a P5 conference title. Just because Prohm isn't good doesn't mean your unsuccessful coach is better
