Is TV hurting attendance?

So far I have watched every game on TV. (Thanks in part to Mediacom or their sports-pak.) I'm beginning to wonder if the rest of the season will be aired. Eventhough, televised games should somewhat help recruiting, I still wonder if it's hurting us more than helping.

I think it hurts attendance more for basketball than football.

The combination of night games & TV hurts attendance for those that would normally drive 2+ hrs to go.

Getting back to Omaha at 1 or 2 am is starting to wear thin with this season ticket holder. And for some reason my 3 year old and 9 month old twins don't seem to care what time I go to bed, they're still getting up at 7.

I'm going to have to agree with many of the posters here...I would love to be in Ames every weekend, but that just isn't in the cards right now for me. I was very happy thought to be able to catch the game on TV otherwise I would have only seen the dismal coverage on the 10pm news we get here in Eastern Iowa. As CarolinaCy said... it doesn't seem to mater what time I go to bed the kids are up by 7 am anyhow

I live in Colorado, so making it to a game is a major undertaking, but I can assure you having games televised gets the word out about ISU. Our neighborhood is full of people from all around the country (Iowa, Nebraska, South Carolina, Oregon, Florida, Texas) who would normally care less about ISU, but we had 15 people over to our house for a gamewatch on Saturday. I even bought my neighbor from SCarolina a cheap I-State shirt which he wore proudly on Saturday. So yes, it can help with exposure, and kind of goes both ways. I cheer for South Carolina and Oregon State with my neighbors too, so that's cool.

Nobody ever wants to state the obvious. We just don't have as many fans as people want to admit. I have over a dozen friends (all hawk fans) who never go to Iowa City to games...EVER. They watch them all on tv...and they love it. Iowa had over 90,000 requests for season tickets this year. Seriously, think about that. ISU maybe had 30-35,000.

Until the fanbase grows (and significantly) we just won't have full houses unless it's a big rivalry game or we really start winning games.

Stop ragging about attendance all the time I say. It's like a self fullfilling prophecy, everybody says the crowds suck and the guy sitting at his house in WDM all the sudden says "hey, I think I'll just stay home. Everybody else is".

Sounds like a cool neighborhood. I'm surounded by hawk-dooshes in my neighborhood. :skeptical:

We do have one Hawkeye fan in our group, and to be honest he's the most civil Iowa fan I've ever met. However, you should have seen me the day he moved in and put up a huge Hawk flag in his garage :skeptical:
