I vote yes. Our conference record is an F-. I will give them a C for non conference record though. While that portion of the record is over .500 and should be higher then a C when you look closely and see our record against the NAIA schools vs. our record against other power conference schools.... you have no choice but to give it a C.

It WILL be 7 scholarship players and some guys who might get late scholarships but really are walk ons.
What I meant by that is the donor could easily have picked up the phone and called JP and said here is my yearly $1,000,000 check for the Athletic Dept. Apply this towards buying out GMAC's contract or you can go ahead and tear that check up. Or half of that goes to the Athletic Dept and the other half must be spent on buying out GMAC's contract. I was not implying that the donor must cough up 4 times what they normally would donate.

Gotcha, but you know sometimes taking away money makes more of a statement than saying "use this money for ________." Although it'd be dumb, JP could just dissent against the donor's wishes :smile:
True. I don't think JP would intentionally tick off a donor dropping a million a year on Cyclone athletics. I hope he wouldn't.
I've decided to stop donating and start paying players directly. Hope some prospects are reading this. :huh:

It's a double edged sword. One edge makes a point that "why would i give money to you when you've done a bad job?" and the other is the "if you don't give me money, i won't have as much."
It's more of a making a statement thing though
If you feel the entire athletic department isn't getting the job done, then I have no problem with voicing your displeasure via the checkbook. But to punish an entire athletic program based on the results of one of it's parts, that seems stupid to me. There are other ways to make your feelings known.
For the record, I don't see how anyone could say that the department as a whole isn't doing great things at ISU.
The only way "I'm not giving you money" would work is if you're either a big donor or a lot of people do it. By work I mean the athletic department not getting money. Let's face it, if you don't give $500 one year, it's not going to ruin the athletic department. You're right, it wouldn't work in improving anything though, and I'm not saying to do it. I'm explaining the reasoning behind why one might do it.
As we've seen though, unless you give money to ISU, it won't matter what you think because only the "shareholders" get an opinion. Not everyone who's a fan can afford tickets, donations, etc so it's kind of sad JP won't even listen.

He is saying that just because the basketball team is struggling, why should you cut funding to the athletic department in general? The athletic department has done a great job over the past couple years. Men's basketball is the only sport most would say is not succeeding at this point. So why punish the sucess of all the other programs for the downfall of one?
This is no different from how most, if not all, corporations operate. Pollard will listen to anyone who contacts him, he's proven that. The actions taken by him will vary based upon your level of support for his corporation. Again, how is that any different than the rest of the world?
Let's turn that logic around 180°. If you're the ISU AD, and one underperforming coach is dragging down support for the rest of your successful athletic teams, why wouldn't you kick that one coach to the curb? Or at least make your displeasure at his failure known to the public?
