Is there a comparison to this season?

I’m disappointed in this season and I’m sure many are. We had virtually everyone back from last year, big 12 champ aspirations which are now over, and this season is a big disappointment with 4 games to go.

Has there ever been expectations with football? What about other sports? I had put away the cyclone nut cup for this season figuring with all the experience there is no way to take a step back…but we have. Are we still Iowa State or are making the right move up with so many guys leaving after this season?

Season is whatever you want to make of it.
Team is still in control of its own fate in regards to big 12 championship (unless you think Baylor and okie st win out).

Two mid tier teams at home, one easy game on road and OU.
Today’s game did very little for big 12 race outside of making Oklahoma game a must win.

Yeah, 2005 might be the closest. My god that was a fun but also frustrating year. Probably my favorite season ever.

3 OT losses that really all should have been wins. At kNebraska Nick Leaders had the game winning interception in his chest and dropped it. At Mizzou Brad Smith was knocked out of the game and the infamous Chase Daniel came in. At KU that QB wasn't across the goal line.

Drilled A&M 42-14 at their place. Scored 28 points at K-State in the 4th quarter to beat them. Beat Iowa 23-3 when they were ranked in the top 10. My favorite season of what-if's. I still have the entire season on VHS.

Ask me after TCU. As frustrating as these guys can be, what if they win out? Probably not going to happen, but nothing would surprise me.

The big difference in other disappointing seasons like 2005 was that the expectations going in were much more modest and got ramped up by on the field performance.

Some fans kept their expectations relatively in check. Seen a lot of ISU football.....

We can certainly beat Texas, but not if the D plays like that. My word that was bad. TX will have better receivers than WVU. We need to step up the pass D, pass rush, tackling, and all the basics.

Offense didn't lose the game today and played well enough for us. Breakdown on D completely..

Honestly Niangs senior year, Prohms first we were around preseason top 5, finished 6th in league, only saving grace was Purdue getting upset and having a cakewalk to the sweet 16 where we got killed by Virginia

This actually feels like every ISU season I can remember (except for the ones where we truly were bottom of the barrel). The only difference is this year's incredibly high expectations. We have a strong tradition of losing games we're always supposed to win.

As the video board used to say before every game: "And that's another Cyclone classic."
