Iowa State Vs. Iowa

I'm gonna chime in and defend this NotEss character for a second due chiefly to the fact that a couple of you are being nonsensical idiots.

I'm shocked to see multiple people in this thread try and use a "statistical outlier" as an argument in any sports-related argument. What an asinine proposal. You're suggesting that there was an error in measurement that caused this score to be different in proportion when compared to the other scores in a season? This can only be the case if they played the same team, a constant, every game. This wasn't the case. Stop using terminology you don't fully understand. Don't make the rest of ISU fans look like childish mud-slingers who just learned a brand new phrase from their freshman Statistics class.

I have no problem with ISU fans thinking their team will hang in this game, or potentially even win it, IF they can provide some actual sound reasoning as to why they think that.

So far all I have is "Remember 2005?" as if that is in any remote way relevant to this season. It's as though their thinking is derived solely from a game that happened 5 years ago with 100% different players and in Ames nonetheless.

I will debate all day with someone who provides sound reasoning/facts to back up their argument. It's not really fun to argue with someone who brings up something completely irrelevant and tries to push it as meaningful.

What was the "sound reasoning" in any of the other games in which we were able to hang in or win it? We haven't been favored in this game or been expect to win it for the last 30 years. The fact remains that it is a rivalry game and standard logic doesn't apply. That is the only thing that has been proven based on past results. Evidently ISU fans are the only ones that have learned from the recent history in this game. Arrogant Iowa fans continue to run their mouth and predict a curb stomping because you think being more talented on paper means something. I guess that is fine because it makes beating you more enjoyable. So I ask you, what "sound reasoning" do you have the this game will be a blowout other than you think it will/should be based on rankings and talent on paper?

I agree that 2005 is no reason to expect an ISU win. I think people just use it as a basis for comparison due to some of the similarities. The one basic thing that is different for ISU is that the 2005 team is one of the most talented EVER to play at ISU. The 7 wins didn't show it, but that team was about 10 points away from a 10 win season and playing in the Big XXII Championship.

However, I do think it's very possible for ISU to come out of Iowa City with a win Saturday. There will be three keys to the game for ISU to win, in my mind:

1) The O-Line. If the O-Line plays as well as they played last year, they will be a hue factor in this game. Thy were about the only group that played well enough to win last season and they have the talent to match last years. They will be facin possibly the best front 4 in the country, but if they can get ARob some creases and give Arnaud time to throw, ISU has a chance.
2) The young LBs. If Klein and Knott can make some plays in the running game and cover the play-action to the TE and FB, ISU should be able to kep Iowa to a manageable point total. I think the talent is there for this to happen, but inexperience could cause some problems.
3) Arnaud. Obviously, a repeat of last year's performance won't give ISU a chance. If Arnaud can limit mistakes and keep his composure under pressure, there is enough talent on Offense for ISU to keep pace with Iowa. Arnaud is also going to have to hit his recievers if they break open deep. He will have at least 1 or 2 times during the game where a reciever loses coverage deep, he needs to see this and take advantage with an accurate throw.

I have no problem with you having a problem.

I want so badly to say ISU wins this game, but I just don't see it happening. Iowa's D-line is going to give us all sorts of trouble. I know A-Rob is good, but unless the O-line surprises me, I see our offense being fairly limited.

Let's face it, if they force us into pass only mode, we are in trouble. Arnaud may be better than last year, but Iowa's defensive scheme is what gives him trouble.

If we had a decent D-line, I would say we are in this game hands down; but we don't. I've very worried about our ability to stop the run. I'll be completely honest, I don't think that Adam Robinson is a world beater, but against us he might look like an All Big Ten player. Don't even get me started on how far off we play on the corners.

This might sound like a debbie downer post, but I just don't see us beating Iowa. They are a true Top 15 team, and unless this team shows me that they are a heck of a lot better than they showed in the second half last Thursday, that doesn't bode well for us. Prediction as of Monday night?
ISU - 10
UI - 31

LOL this site is great, its going to be a good game either way. But I think that the Cyclones might want it more than the Hawkeyes this year. We have something to prove, where as the Hawks dont.

Good lord, how old are you?

The Cyclones "want it more?" What makes you think that?

The Hawkeyes don't have anything to prove? How about proving they are worthy of a preseason top 10 ranking?

Ohhh such a downer you are haha, just believe man. They have done it before, I've been to several games where everyone was saying that ISU was going down heavy. But I kept my spirits up and we pulled out amazing wins. I think that we have a better shot at winning this than a lot of people think. Its all up to our players though. And I'm really looking forward to the game.

What does my age have to do with you being a hawkeye slut?

Also, yes we will want to win this game more than the Hawks. Hawks suck ********.

With these kids at ISU and their never die and I believe attitude ,I believe they have a chance everywhere we play this year ... NOT to mention CPR and Staff are great It is fun to be a fan with these coaches and players in place . Thats why we play the games I guess.Go Cyclones!!! (hoping for the upset )

LOL! So you think that a statistical outlier only refers to regression related problems ... or to problems where the underlying random variables are IID? Come now ... don't make your ISU brethren seem naive!

Of the last 10 games ISU has been in all but 2 of them until the end of the game. Look at how close Iowa plays most of their games. Has your QB gotten better in the off season? Has your team gotten better? Some Iowa fans say this team has played together for years, yet in the next breath they say since there are so many new faces playing we dont know how they will all mesh. Give me a reason why Iowa will blow ISU out. Give me a reason to think this game will be different than most the last 10 years. Give me a reason why Iowa will put this game away earliy, when most of the time they have issues with putting teams away earily.

Mr. HerkyKiller, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no reps, and may God have mercy on your soul.

:biglaugh: Go back to the Hawk boards, they can award you something you might like.

I've lived in Iowa for 15yrs. now and have kept myself outside of this web of horror we call the Iowa/Iowa State game.....and until this yr. I've kept away from pickng sides.....until now.....You Hawkeye fans remind me so much of the pompous Notre Dame fans I grew up with. Losses are viewed as thefts....you never played a game you ever lost...Wins against the EIU's of the world are considered Historic victories.....We never get the respect we deserve....Wins are never by enough....yadda,yadda, yadda...

I really don't have an issue with the Iowa program/coaches or players.....It's the fans that frost my ***...... The best sweatshirt I ever saw was at a Notre Dame/ Purdue game....There's the leperchaun...on his knees servicing Purdue Pete..the Boiler mascot...with the caption...."Swallow Your Pride," something most Hawkeye fans should do......GO CLONES!!!!!

I find it very hard to believe......that you've lived in the state for 15 years now.....and not run into pompous Iowa fans.......before this year.....pretty sure......ISU fans.....have been complaining about that.......for years......

He never said he didnt run into them, he said that he was staying away from picking sides.

Please read.
