Iowa State Vs. Iowa

Iowa was playing flawlessly until Stanzi went down. After that it seemed like everything was a struggle.

Iowa also had a couple of bad fumbles and Stanzi missed a wide open McNutt streaking down the field.

Definitely looked like the first game of the season.

If Iowa cleans up a few things, they should have do problem with ISU.

Don't forget that Hampton, Binns, Gettis and Prater will all be back as well.
Do you find it disconcerting that you were having trouble executing against FCS opponent, Eastern Illinois?

Stanzi didnt seem to be very good today.

Seriously? You're going to make me defend another team's QB? What'd he start the game with? 8-8 the last I knew. I'm not sure when he threw his first incompletion. And it looked like their coaches drilled into him to not force passes so he doesn't make bad interceptions like last year. If he plays it safe and wins the field position battle with their defense, they will be scary good.

You keep saying you watched the game, but this post proves otherwise.

Dont get all butthurt because the Hawkeye quaterback didnt impress me.

I'm not comparing the two quarterbacks.

At what point in the game was Iowa having trouble executing....Iowa punted once all day....and we fumbled the ball on the 1 yard line when Robinson was on the way into the end zone....I can't find a point in the game where we were "having trouble executing".

Again, we didn't learn a whole lot today, but no objective observer would say that Iowa "had trouble executing" during the game today.

Thanks, I was googling Iowa State vs. Iowa record, etc., and I noticed I spelled my name wrong in haste so I remade my profile.

We looked better than I had hoped for this season in the NIU game. Anyone else notice one of the FSN announcers was all about NIU before the game started, then just shut up after the first quarter?

On to Iowa, I'd say we have a 33% chance of victory. It's always tough in Kinick to pull one out. We have a chance if we get some early 3rd down conversions like in the NIU game.

I didn't know that Iowa keeps the grass long.......... how would this help either team?

It slows down ground balls.

KF did it two years ago, and was known to do this to slow down teams with the track type speed - basically that meant every team that visited, but especially us. Add water to that long grass and then you have iowa football - two yards and a splash.

Do you find it disconcerting that ISU lost to a FCS team a couple years ago?

Also, Stanzi was 18-23 for 229 yards and 1 TD with 0 INTs. Take away one overthrown ball and I'd say he played pretty well, don't you?

Iowa also fumbled at the 1 yard line and the game ended with Iowa on the 6 yard line.

EIU also needed a fake punt to get their only points.

Iowa outgained EIU 450 yards to 150, with 37 of EIU's coming on that one trick play.

This game was a complete mismatch and wasn't as even as close as the 30 pt spread would indicate.

Anything can happen next week, but to say that Iowa disappointed today and that ISU performed so well this week is just funny.

Glad you have a sense of humor, but don't worry, there are plenty of hawk fans around here to stick up for them, so don't feel the need to be on here 24-7 until kickoff.

Iowa didnt disappoint, but I'm glad to see the didnt live up to my expectations against EIU. That tells me ISU has a shot at winning next weeks game.

My head says Iowa is a better team and playing at home, so that's the smart pick, but my heart is with ISU. Throw the records out on this one. I'm going to pick ISU in the upset, 16-14, with Stanzi blowing a late chance at pulling out yet another Hawk comeback win with a big Int to Sims, back from suspension. ISU breaks the TD streak in the 2nd quarter with a big Arnaud scramble.
