A few things.. Tamin is not a bad offensive player, he’s just limited. He was probably a top 5 finishing guard in the Big 12 as a freshman. He also is a tremendous passer and his basketball IQ is off the charts.
Why I think he’ll be a better offensive player next year is because he actually has a lot of tools in his tool bag that he has shown throughout his young career in AAU and high school. Being a freshman, it’s not surprising that he didn’t trust aspects of his game. He does, however have a good floater and a good mid range game. When he was dominating HS basketball last year, he wasn’t just shooting layups. We’re not talking about a guy who saw limited minutes, we’re talking about a freshman all big 12 PG who started for a team that was consistently ranked in the toughest conference in America.
I think a lot of us have forgotten that guys develop in different ways and at Iowa State we’ve been blessed with having young talent but that young talent has usually left early, denying us the ability to see their games flourish.
