High school ball is especially prone to this. Pewaukee has other good players so you can't just double him constantly or anything, and there are very few high school defenders in the country that would take Milan off his game totally. He was also pretty much unstoppable in AAU against pretty much everyone.
Dekker was more of a guard than Milan will be IMO, and was likely a better pure athlete, but Milan is a lot more polished and has a better shot coming into college.
I do think Milan's fadeaway gives him game in the post pretty early, at least from time to time. He's gonna have the length to get it off over basically everyone except true 5s and I think it's a look we'll see a lot with him.
Should have kept Blake Hinson. Wonder what the issue was. He looks very good against Xavier today.
I think one play kinda typified what went wrong. Hinson had just made a great fade away jump shot with 2 defenders in his face. The immediate possession by Xavier a kid drove the lane and Hinson played matador defense, bumped him anyway and got a foul. I think we just have to accept that NOT EVERY player is going go 'buy in' to TJ's defensive style. Or even preseason conditioning. But, yes, would have been nice to have his offense.
Blake really struggled with our defensive style and was not happy that Jaz was going to start over him to begin the year. The crappy thing is that had it not been TJ’s first year, I’m sure TJ would’ve tried harder to make it work and Blake would’ve also trusted the system more. At the time, TJ was trying to get guys to buy into something that had yet to be proven.
A few things.. Tamin is not a bad offensive player, he’s just limited. He was probably a top 5 finishing guard in the Big 12 as a freshman. He also is a tremendous passer and his basketball IQ is off the charts.
Not sure how you can keep a guy who gets told what the expectations are at the start of the year and he refuses to want to do them when you're establishing a culture
Yep. I think it was the same with Bolton. Although he may have been looking to move on from Iowa St, no matter who the coach was.
Yeah I’m not expecting anyone to all of a sudden get great. Tamin’s just a different type of freshman. We’re not talking about someone like Eli, who just wasn’t skilled enough to play at this level. We’re talking about an all big 12 freshman who proved he belonged on the court.
I didn’t mean that as a slight haha I was just speaking the truth and honestly most freshman aren’t ready to play at this level. Eli’s got a lot of time college basketball left in his career and he could be an effective player if he can tap into his potential.
