Yep, you're right technicals equal an automatic loss.
They don't equal a team getting better over a few game stretch or healing injuries.

Like I said before, you don't have any evidence of that. It's impossible to tell either way, it could have swung that game in our favor, next thing you know we have more confidence and beat Oklahoma State at home the next game. They don't equal a team getting better over a few game stretch or healing injuries.
Are you saying a technical at WV rights the ship? That gonna give the players more abilities and energy too?
How do you know the players don't think TJ sticks up for them?Who knows? Honestly I think the time for the technical was in the OSU game with about 2 minutes left. The team had obviously lost their **** against West Virginia but we were in that game late. The OSU game was over by that time and the players were still visibly frustrated. Get a T. Let the players see you sticking up for them. Give everyone a clean break and then move on.
I just don’t see where the no technical thing has especially helped this team. Players have still gotten frustrated. I don’t think we’ve especially gotten good or favorable calls this year. And I don’t think a coach getting one T a year is going to ruin his reputation among officials forever.

I would agree that missing easy looks is not the primary or only problem, but I think it is a significant problem because of the difficulty that ISU is having (particularly now) hitting outside shots. ISU has to finish those easy looks now in order to score enough points to win. Either finish, or at least draw a foul to get some FTs and put foul pressure on the other team. ISU is not good at drawing fouls on those drives, and when they do get fouled, the FT shooting is often not so good.I don’t buy the “missing easy looks” talk as being the primary problem. Of course they did miss some easy looks, but hit those at a normal rate for most teams and you’re still maybe losing to the last place team at home.
Like last year compared to most teams they aren’t getting a good number of good looks with consistency. When last years team scored it was often Brockington hitting some high degree of difficulty shots. When this years team scores it’s often Gabe and Grill hitting tough looks.
I don’t think this team has a lot of offensive talent. But there are more problems to our offense than simply guys’ inability to hit open shots.
I don't love that tj always says the defensive intensity wasn't enough. 18 turnovers and holding the opponent to 60 is fine. Need to score at sone point. But it's just coach speak, he knows we need offense, and it's coming.

I don't think that they think that. I DO think that they were EXTREMELY frustrated in those 2 games. Their actions demonstrated that. What they were doing wasn't exactly working.
I just think it wouldn't have hurt and maybe could have helped for there to be a technical there. Sometimes people need to know that their frustration is justified. And I think that maybe that was one of those times.
What, exactly, do you think it would have hurt? One technical a year doesn't turn a coach into Bob Knight. Do you think any less of Caleb for his technical? I don't.
I think in a tight game, giving the opponent a chance at free points and posssion is bad.
even that worries me a bit. We got killed by the last two decent non con games we played in Iowa and Mizzou. I guess it will just depend on matchups, if we get one where our style of play has a better chance. The Big 12 is a f***ing meat grinder!!
If they're not physically exhausted, I'm sure they're mentally exhausted. I think the fast start to the Big 12, and big wins early kept them engaged, but since some injuries and cold shooting has made it more realistic that they're closer to middle of the pack, the spark is gone.
Not saying this is ok, and I think it's something TJ and the staff have to work on in the future.
However, I do think it's very possible to see them get the spark back for the Ncaa tournament, when they're able to play someone outside of the Big 12.

it's a way different game if we hit those easy ones we missed. We forced 18 turnovers and way more shots on the basket than OU did, with those two crazy stats from yesterday, we should have easily won, missing the bunnies absolutely killed us.I don’t buy the “missing easy looks” talk as being the primary problem. Just beat WV and we will all be feeling much better about things as the calendar turns to March. No one expects a win at Baylor or a Big 12 tournament title. It's all about the Big Dance after WV.

but it changes the complexion of the game, puts more pressure on OU, crowd in it more, momentum, etc..I don’t know about that. It’s not like this team hasn’t given up leads. The second half was bad and I’ll contend our defense wasn’t great in the second half.
It’s so perplexing, we really were playing some high-level basketball there for a while. And then what exactly change I’m not for sure. I’ve always viewed Kunc positively, I like him as a player and I like his game…it’s just weird that right after he came back the team collapsed. Probably a coincidence but it’s just odd to me.
