Iowa State Employment

Just curious for anyone who works at Iowa State, is there room for negotiating salary within the stated pay grade, or do new hires typically start at the minimum as is the case in some organizations?

Typically new hires have to be in the first third of the pay grade. Going higher than that is possible, but it requires the hiring manager to write a memo or two and seek approval from above (not sure how much approval is required). They have, to the best of my knowledge, full discretion within the first third, though.
