Iowa new transfer?

Hubbard was under a microscope and got booted by Fran? Fran brought in a convicted felon and that convicted felon left on his own. Don't pretend like Fran didn't want him there.

Lucious had rumors floating around him from East Lansing (although nothing major), but other than that, those guys were all clean.

A DUI is definitely not a good thing, and I'm a little uncomfortable with this. I will say though, he wouldn't have been kicked out of most schools over this; Pepperdine supposedly has a zero-tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol.

That doesn't say a whole lot, though. Most assumed there was some sort of agreement when Hubbard arrived on campus, that he would have a zero-tolerance policy. There was a rumor that Hubbard did something inappropriate regarding a faculty member's daughter (nothing serious, but incredibly stupid for someone in his position). He was gone shortly after that.

It's not a stretch to think a coach might not air the dirty laundry in public. The same way many people who **** up at their jobs "resign".

McCaffery, who was on the road Thursday recruiting, did not return phone calls seeking comment. But in a release issued by the university, McCaffery said he was disappointed with the news.

That sounds a lot more concrete than saying someone heard he got booted off the team. Either way it doesn't matter but you can't say he got kicked off

I'm not say I heard he got booted. But things like this go down the way I described it pretty commonly. Is it concrete? No. But it's often no different than coach speak. Just because coaches say one thing in public doesn't mean that's how it went down behind closed doors.

But he either broke some set of rules and was "asked to leave," or the fact that he only lasted a couple months can hardly be used against McCaffery. People can't have it both ways.

Which would have nothing to do with his past and therefore can't reasonably be used against Fran. There are plenty of kids who realize they simply aren't in the right place for them and leave.

I'm not using it against Fran or blaming him. A poster said Fran had him under a microscope and booted him and that's false...that's all I'm pointing out

Lucious also had a DUI and it was well known on MSU campus that he failed drug test.

Please point to where I said Fran had him under a microscope. I said Hubbard was under a microscope; which anyone and everyone knew. Like TM said its pretty safe to assume he had a zero tolerance policy. That was probably a condition from the university for Fran to even pursue him. Just b/c Fran didn't come out and say he f'd up and that is why he's leaving doesn't mean that wasn't the reason why. Kind of like the reason jewel Hampton transferred from the football team. Didn't hear kf come out and say he failed a drug test.

The hypocrisy of both fan bases is incredible. It doesn't take much time on HN or here to realize that.

Having said that, Iowa State would take a kid with this background in a second if Fred felt comfortable with him. However, I'm not sure we would take a kid with this level of talent.

Seems like with a little practice, he is NIT material so Iowa is perfect.

Technically, if Gray is guilty of a "felony" (as a few seem to keep emphasizing), then Lucious is not guilty of a "DUI" because I think it was reduced to reckless driving.

You're half-right in previous post. Hubbard acting like a dumb#ss out on the town with a lady and he was asked to LEAVE the U of Iowa permanently. Fran arranged this before he left on a recruiting trip. No need for a press conference, and the eastern Iowa media let it skate.

1) I thought Fran does things the 'right' way?'
2) why would Iowa fans bash ISU's transfers after the Hubbard debacle?

You are kind of right.

He had signed with Siena, but was released to follow Fran.

The simple fact of the matter is fran thought Hubbard was good enough to 'llhelp him win games. He went out on a limb, and the kid ****ed up.

But to think he's satisfied being out mid majors for recruits it's silly. He will take any kid he thinks can help him win.you all are being disingenuous if you think otherwise.

1) I didn't see anyone in this thread going after Fran for recruiting this kid. I saw the OP making fun of Iowa fans now that their bball coach is going after transfers, following Iowa fans getting on their high horse about Fran doing things the "right way".

2) I don't think you want to play the "name game" with athletes that got in trouble with the law . . .

Exactly. Luckily Fran isn't as dumb as his fan base and realizes he can't win games when he's beating out MAC teams on the recruiting trail.

And yea, Iowa led all sports (college & pro) for most athletes arrested in 2012
 
Ah, the Tony Hubbard days, they were a gas.

Remember the guy that came over here comparing Tony to Michael Jordan?

A quick summation:

When, arguably, the 13th man on ISU's team transferred, he transferred to a Big Ten team.

When, arguably, the 13th man on Iowa's team transferred, he transferred to International Pipefitters and Welders Union.

He's then replaced with someone (with a DUI/possible drug involvement) from Surfer University.

Keep on doing it the right way Franiacs!
