Beating Iowa is no big secret. MS should have learned from the ISU/Iowa game. All you have to do is put a hand in their face and stop the 3's. Stop the 3's and you beat Iowa. Teams will figure this out.

So Iowa gets no credit? Because we needed no luck whatsoever to beat Iowa. If teams keep having bad offensive games against Iowa then maybe Iowa is actually a good defensive team. Once or twice might be luck, but 4 or 5 times?
My post was intended to be dripping with sarcasm. I agree that ISU beating Iowa wasnt luck.

I think Iowa is the same this year as they have the few years prior: they have 1 stud: Uthoff
Difference being this year is that uthoff is simply more studly than studs of years past, White and Marble. And whereas those other guys were surrounded by underclassmen, uthoff is part of an upperclassmen heavy team. Those guys have played together for a long time and have had very little (significant) attrition

This is pretty close. Uthoff is definitely the best player Fran has had. But the rest of the team has a lot of solid offensive players, any one of whom CAN go off on a given night (whereas Uthoff does so on a regular basis). Uthoff scores 10 against MSU in the first game, Gesell goes off for 25, Jok gets 19 and Baer gets 11. Uthoff scores 15 (and doesn't have an efficient game at all) in round 2, and Jok gets 23, Clemmons gets 13 and Uhl gets 10. Experience definitely plays a role in that, but those guys are all better players than they were just a year or two ago. This team shoots the ball MUCH better than previous teams under Fran; part of that I would guess is that the guy who commands the heaviest workload is also a terrific jump shooter, whereas Marble was more of a slasher and White was a guy who could finish around the rim and hit free throws. Uthoff's ability to beat defenses in so many different ways also probably creates more good looks for his teammates; he's just a tougher assignment than White or Marble were (especially White).
There have been three true road wins in the country all season against Top 15 teams. Iowa has two of them. That isnt luck.
Iowa is firing on all cylinders, and while I might get banished for saying this... they are fun to watch right now.
They are playing on both sides of the ball as a team; especially on defense. Playing very smart, a lot like how the Spurs played a few years back.
Iowa's players were quoted (and even thanked IIRC) that they learned a lot from losing to ISU. If ISU can learn those same lessons, I guarantee you ISU will be right back in the mix of things.

iowa is playing great right now. iowa state should be playing just as good with all the veterans they have back and how they ended last season. I wish ISU would trust some of their bench guys the way Iowa does.

Iowa's next loss will be on the 28th at Maryland. After that, I'm not really sure when they lose again. Maybe the end of February?
Before the season started (can't find it now -- might have gotten moved to rivals forum) I posted about a nightmare I had. We had a good year, made a little noise in the dance, but Iowa got hot and made it to the championship game. I fear it may come true.
Iowa is playing at the highest level they can play at right now. I am glad at this point we don't play a home and home with them because if we played them right now in CHA we would probably not be happy with the result
They have to go on the road to Indiana and Michigan before it's all said and done, and they still play host to Michigan and Purdue. I've got them losing to Maryland. They play at Illinois and at Indiana in back to back games, and I think they'll split that (both arenas are historically tough for Iowa, and Illinois is good enough to play spoiler). And then I think @Michigan will be a loss (another building that Iowa typically struggles in, and Michigan is very tough at home).
Know what you're saying, but if people look w/o bias, Uhl, Bear, Ellingson, and maybe even Wagner are better than Cooke/ Carter/Ashton. Uhl gives them another scorer with length. Something we don't have. Still think Forbes was the key for MichSt and again they just took away his 3's and got physical with him both games, because their point guard hardly shoots/scores in any of the big10 games I've watched.
I would wager that Iowa will not lose either game to Michigan. Michigan has no post play, doesn't sound good for Lavert coming back anytime soon, either. They'll simply take away the 3 pt. line, then Woodbury & Uthoff can clean up if they penetrate. Of course Maryland almost lost at home to lowly Penn State and needed an NBA '3' at the buzzer to beat Wisconsin, who has beaten nobody. Purdue loses at home to Iowa and at Illinois, both teams we beat. Other than their height, what does Purdue have? Needless to say, Wisc and Ohio State are down. I'll probably get laughed at for this but I don't think any team in the Big12 is as bad as Minnesota, PennState, Nebraska, and Rutgers are this year. I've watched a lot of Big10 teams this year. The year Iowa has its best team, their league is down. The year ISU was 'supposed' to have one of our best teams, we lose our coach, incoming recruits, and starter Naz, and boom -our league is up! But it is what it is. Quite frankly, if Iowa doesn't win the big10 this year now, I think they will have underachieved. Again ...unless they have a major injury.
