Iowa ending DST?

If they get rid of it, I may have to adopt my own DST. Just do everything an hour earlier. I wish they could change the time zones to maximize sunlight in the evening. Nothing worse than going to work when its dark and coming home when its dark for 3 months in the winter.

Anyone that has had to deal with the negative effects of this change back and forth on children's sleeping cycle, know it is time to stop this. Agree with many however, that would prefer to do this on a fed level.

Switching things willy nilly back and forth is nothing but extra problems. I would not mind it if the whole country made something permanent, but a small state like Iowa becoming an outlier is just asking for problems.

That's kinda my point. I don't want to be switching the rules/laws back and forth. It's good where it's at today.

Sleep cycles is your argument? Seriously?

So your for this random event that causes heart attack's and other problems to increase?

I like having the additional time in the evening but people could adjust and just move start times earlier in the day. It is a little more problematic trying to do this on a state level.

Let's see, if this passes then we would be on CST in the winter but then be the same time zone as Mountain Standard time in the summer.

If we kept Daylights savings year round we would then be on Central standard time in the summer an Eastern Standard time in the winter. Correct?

Changes to and from DST - once each way a year - causes heart attacks and other problems to increase? Link?

Perhaps we should outlaw snow shoveling since there are many heart attacks triggered by vigorous snow shoveling.

Looks like a new bill will be introduced to end DST in Iowa. As @brentblum pointed out on Twitter this would make 11AM games in September and November 10AM kicks.

Also...lets see how long we can keep this out of the cave.

Why? That would just be really confusing anytime you travel or do business outside of Iowa. Indiana does this, but aren't they bordering eastern time anyway?

Dumb Idea. Will never happen nationally. Think about how far behind the west coast is from the east? What about Hawaii?

So an increase of 25% on one day and a decrease of 21% on another day. Sounds like a pretty inconsequential net. The other link lays out some pretty easy steps you can take if you are worried about your ticker - like how about going to bed an hour early after a warm bath on Saturday and Sunday nights. They said it only takes 24 hours to adjust...

Meanwhile please have the legislature outlaw snow shoveling because it claims way too many lives:

Just let him go he's on a roll

You said children's sleep schedules. "Anyone that has had to deal with the negative effects of this change back and forth on children's sleeping cycle, know it is time to stop this."

Just put the brats to bed an hour earlier.

I think using health concerns as a reasoning to get rid of DST is dumb. Everything I've read shows the negative health effects of DST are due to losing an hour of sleep. Go to bed earlier if you're susceptible to having health problems.

There are other events that cause higher heart related deaths rates. Christmas and the Super Bowl are 2 that come to mind. I doubt either of those 2 will be cancelled in the near future due to health concerns. (Yes I know Christmas and the Super Bowl do not directly cause the deaths, and neither does DST).

My views about losing DST: Do it on a federal level or leave it as it is. Arizona being the only state in the contiguous United States without it causes confusion on the state level. Being in the middle of a time zone makes it even worse for Iowa. Personally, I like the extra hour of sunlight due to DST and wouldn't mind going the other way ... having DST year round.

There is no reason for it, just a needless thing that has arisen because some lawmakers thought it was a good idea to save fuel.

And a 4% net difference is significant. Let's see 1.5 million heart attacks each year in the US. 4% of those because of some time shifts would be an extra 60,000 heart attacks that may be unnecessary. Just pick a time and stick with it all year and don't change it each spring and fall.
