Iowa Depth Chart

Who is moving the goalposts now?

Rudock 15-10
CJ 2-0 (Pitt and Purdue) 2-1 if you count the Tenn. game which was over before he even got to play.

If you think CJ is better than Steele because of QB rating I'm assuming you thought Rudock was better than CJ as well right?

I think CJ is better than Steele because based upon the evidence provided he throws twice as many TD's as he does interceptions. That's far from the case with Steele.

Had CJ thrown 5 tds and 5 interceptions then I would agree that Jake is better.

Beathard has 6 TDs and 4 INT's in his career
Rudock has 34 TDs and 18 INT's in his career

Like I said, Beathard is 2-0 and Jake is 15-10. I've never once said that I think Jake is a bad QB. His stats certainly don't show that he's a bad QB. I think CJ is a better fit for Iowa's offense because they need someone who can make plays. If Iowa's offense had a bunch of playmakers around the QB then Jake would have been a better fit. That hasn't been the case though. Jake just plays too conservatively.

Steele was 13-2

Say what?

I just assumed we were making stuff up. Beathard is 1-1 in games he threw double digit passing attempts. I will give you 1-0 in games he started if that makes you feel better. I do think it's funny you thought the Tennessee game was over before he got in and he entered the game down 7-0...must not have a lot of faith in him if he couldn't overcome that deficit!

Must spread rep.

Considering he played the entire 2nd half of the Pitt game and he helped the team overcome a deficit he gets credited for that W. I'll give ya 2-1. Everyone deserves credit for the crap performance in the bowl game.

I think CJB gives them a dimension they've not had in a while. Honestly, I'd be happier of ruddock stayed, he isn't very good and can't throw deep. CJB has ability to stretch the field both throwing and running, although he's not real quick just long legs.

Iowa has far greater problems than a newer QB. Oline will be worst since KF took over IMO. Heard it was brutal in spring scrimmage. WR, outside of Tevaun, will be meh..LB similar to us. Interior Dline will struggle depth wise IMO. Iowa needs to pray that any of the current Oline starters don't go down before the season cause if anyone does ouch. I really think their offense will struggle a lot.

IMO, Jordan Harris is going to be good. I don't see any Iowa LB being that good.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. I'm much more concerned about the offensive line than I am quarterback. I was at the spring practice in WDM and the tackles struggled mightily against Ott, Meier, and Matt Nelson. With that said it was nice to see those d-ends getting consistent pressure. Especially Matt Nelson. That kid looks the part and he's rotating snaps with the starting unit. I also agree about the depth at defensive tackle. Jaleel Johnson and Bazata will be solid starters, but I'm not sure what to expect out of anyone behind them.

As far as the D-line, a lot depends on whether Cooper can come back from his injury...if he does the interior will be o.k. Ott is a stud on the outside but other than him we're pretty mediocre.

Just lots of ???? for the Hawks.....and the Clones. We'll see in September where these teams are at....

If I had to pick a record right now it'd be 6-6 but it could be a 2 game swing either way.

I agree it is a pretty difficult year to accurately predict a record for the Hawks. Not that it is ever easy, but this year is more difficult than most in my opinion. You combine the unknowns with the relatively easy schedule and it could really go either way. If the unknowns step up to the plate and play better than expected they could have a decent season, but if the inexperience and youth shows then it could get ugly. I have no idea what to expect.

Just need to trust in Kirk, he's a top 10 paid coach for a reason.

Ott will play this coming year without the stud DT's that were next to him last year. Probably not be as easy as it was last year.

I don't expect much of a drop off from Jaleel. We'll see how Bazata can perform and there isn't near as much depth that's for sure.
