Curious what others think of iOS 8. I upgrade my 4S last Friday and have a few days on it so far.

Not overly impressed with predictive texting and don't understand why it was such a knock on iOS that it didn't have it before. I'm still trying to use it (to see if it's just me) but it seems to take longer to look up at the predicted word and then click on it then to just type or abbreviate the word you want to type.

Heath - as a med alert peep I kinda like this option being added. No guarantee a medical person would check my phone but feel better knowing it's there.

Speedwise I noticed an initial slowdown. What I did was do an erase all content and then restored from a backup. This removed about 3.9gb that was marked as "Other". I think it runs better after that.

Not looking for comments from samsung fan boys. Yes, we know you love your android device as much as we like our apple device.

I've not had any issues with it so far (I have a 5s). I pretty much just ignore the predictive texting, though. I always hated T9 when I was in high school and my first couple years of college; it was way faster for me to just type it out myself.

I only use the predictive texting. Other then that the update sucked.
edit: I downloaded a swipe texting app and it also sucks

I've had two iPhones and the one thing that I have noticed is that they have never slowed down. Every Droid (4 of them) slowed down withing a year. I also went through at least two of each on warranty and have had zero issues with either iPhone. Anyway, 8 doesn't seem so different to me but I haven't had a lot of time to really dig into it.

I don't care for this either. It just clutters up the screen even more.

I also don't understand the health app...does it just aggregate data from other apps/devices? If so...that's pretty stupid.

I hate how they've changed the photo viewer. There's no good place to just see all of your photos in one album. You have to click on a year, then a "collection", and possibly more "sub-collections" just to get to a photo. And they've made the thumbnails for that view so small that you can't even discern what they are without expanding them into full view. This one is just such an awful "upgrade" that I suspect they'll change it soon.

For some reason there is a recently deleted album, so every time I delete a photo it goes there and stays there for a day then It gets deleted, its pretty stupid.

I've read on various boards that iOS 8 on anything less than the 5S (i think it was the S-series) will not be super pleasing because it's not optimized for the smaller screens and older internal systems. I'm not a tech-geek so maybe that wording isn't right. Basically, that the iOS 8 system will only really reach full potential on the 5S, 6, and 6+.

I haven't updated my 4S partially for this reason, and also because I'll be upgrading to a 6 in the next few weeks.

Yeah, I had read that too. Still couldn't resist upgrading. So far I don't notice a huge difference in performance on my phone.

On the photo thing yeah that is annoying. To me it's one of those "it worked fine before why the heck did you have to monkey with it" categories.

I'm not an iphone user but I wanted to share that there was a story on NPR this morning on iOS8. There were so many bugs that they came out with iOS8.0.1 in record time. Now they have even pulled .0.1 because of more major bugs. Even their tech expert recommended waiting before applying any updates so in his words "other people can be their guinea pigs".

I like it for my 5c. I like the predictive texting feature myself but I don't abbreviate much.

I was a bit unnerved when my phone rang and my ipad rang at the same time. Didnt expect that.

It was convenient however since my phone was in the other room and I was on my ipad at the time.

I like being able to reply to texts by swiping down on the notification, or to trash an email quickly the same way. And the recent contacts by double-clicking the home button is nice if I can remember it's there.

So did you answer it like this?

I too have noticed a slow down on my 4s. That, and it seems several of the apps are having prolonged loading issues. Facebook most notably. Haven't really paid much attention, but I think several of those still haven't been updated since the iOS release, so there may be some optimization still forthcoming.

It is rather interesting watching the flurry of app updates on the heels of a major OS release.

But he guy at the phone store told me yesterday the 6 series is so much better than the 5S, and I shouldn't waste my money getting a 5S. I got the 5S and am glad I did.
