Invading Cincinnati

We're in Sec 104, from what I can tell around the 15. Possibly the best visitor seats I've gotten thru ISU, but I used to just wing it and either buy from our hosts or 3rd party. Last year, TX put us 2-3 rows from the top on the end where X dropped that pass (I could barely see it, the clouds were blocking my view at that height...) 10 years ago, oSu put us next to the bball arena. So I appreciate our new conference foes giving us decent seats. Nippert holds 38k, I'll be reading up on the stadium and history this week.

Also bought a parking pass from UC in Eden Garden ramp, about a mile away. Supposed to be a shuttle of some sort, but we'll walk it.
If you have time, walk it. It’s not that far.

Honestly not a bad seat in the house which is nice. The stadium is directly in the middle of campus and kind of down in a hole, so you walk up to it and you are at the top of the lower bowl.

I assume you got Eden Garage (not aware of an Eden Garden garage), it's on the med school campus which is basically just across the street from main campus. Tons of people will be walking from this garage, probably only 1/2 mile if that.

My group will have about 10 people and will be most likely tailgating on the grid, looking forward to it!
We have 9 of us going. We plan to go to the grid.

@BearcatsUc - we are staying in the OTR area a little north and a little west of the casino is that good at night? Also, I was told by a kid in the ticket office that there are plenty of places that offer parking off Burnet Woods Dr. Do you know if they is accurate?

I cannot picture where you are staying so I’m not sure.

As far as parking goes, I arrive at least an hour before the game and park at metered spaces on Clifton Avenue by Burnet Woods or Hebrew Union College.

I download the cincyez park app on my phone and pay via credit card. It takes about five minutes to set up. There are no actual meters. Since this is a noon game, I need to remember to refresh, so I’ll set my alarm and pay to reset the “meter.”

Arrive late and parking is a nightmare.

Jungle Jim"s anyone? Been a while since I visited. Giant grocery store with all sorts of exotic items. Northern suburbs.
There are two Jungle Jim’s. One is in Eastgate, the original is in Fairfield, about 35 minutes north in a suburban “ghetto,” in the middle of miles of car dealerships and fast food.

Fairfield is way more funner, a foodie paradise. Eastgate feels more like a regular grocery store, tho it prolly carries all the same stuff.

Anyway, yeah besides all all the animatronics, JJ’s has an assortment of edibles from around the world. Towards the back of the store, it’s actually divided up by country. There’s one aisle devoted to hot sauces. It sits under a fire engine. Every time I go there, I’m fixated by their cheese section, which is also divided by country. Extensive beer and wine selection, humidor. It also functions as a regular grocery store.

It’s an interesting place.

We are staying just off Main and E 12th by Goodfellas Pizzeria.

Also, anything you'd recommend we do on Friday? We will be in town tomorrow evening. I have seen the underground Cavern Brewery Tour or the Underground Railroad Tour. Suggestions are much appreciated.

Regarding tailgating, we planned on hitting up the HangOverEasy place off Glendora Avenue. We want to tailgate on the Grid. Is there any parking on the east side of the stadium by the HangOverEasy place? We planned to pull a cooler to the grid is that allowed?

I’ve been told by a colleague who lives in Cincinnati that Short Vine Avenue is a good area to hit before games because there are lots of bars.

I'll chime in if you don't mind @BearacatsUc. That area, Short Vine has lots of street parking, but it may be a little tough to find one. There will be lots of people tailgating in that area, so a cooler wouldn't be out of the ordinary. HangOverEasy is a great place, but good luck on game day. If you're in early or staying, try it another day - Happy Hour on weekdays there is 7am.

Earlier posts mentioned alot of great places in OTR - highly encouraged. And the stadium does serve beer, craft beers from all the great Cincinnati breweries.

Looking forward to seeing other Cyclones - although I'll be in the midst of UC alums, as all my kids went there.

I didn’t know there was a hotel there. Air Bnb maybe?

It’s totally fine during the day. On weekend nights it’s usually bustling. Personally, I don’t want to be there late nights when the bars close.

Lots of gentrification going on down there. It can change block to block. Generally less developed north of liberty — Locals walk it at night but out of towners, prolly not. My general rule is to see where/who the people are.

There are lots of bars snd restaurants around you. The duckpin bowling place is just around the corner. You are by the casino. Other things in the vicinity: Museum Center (OMNIMAX Natural history museum, Cincy History Museum), Reds Hall of Fame, Contemporary Arts Center Downtown.

This time of year there are various haunted tours but I cannot recommend any of them

Lucius Q bbq is a few blocks away, was on Diners Drive Ins and Dives recently. Been there, done that, not good enough for national attention. I mean it’s not bad, but not mind blowing.

You are right by Sugar n Spice for breakfast. Popular spot.

It is an AirBNB.

We read somewhere that there are food trucks in The Grid. Is that accurate?

@AvonLakeCyclone / @BearcatsUc - is the corner of Main and E12th in an ok.area? We usually stick to a larger group, but wanted to make sure of someone decides to walk back to get something from the place we are staying.
I'm not familiar with that specific area. The main of OTR, which is centered on Vine St is pretty safe walking. Main St is a few blocks east of there; just to be cautious, travel in a pair.

last year they had maybe 5 food trucks somewhere outside the stadium, but I’m not sure about this year. The student union is adjacent to the stadium and there is a food court there. You can enter the stadium from the door just outside the pub. Actually they now might take your ticket when you enter the student union, im not sure.

Edited to add: I’m very sad to find that the pub is now student dining. A long tradition is dead. I remember students hanging in the Rhine Room between classes having a beer.

I see there are passes available thru the university for the Clifton lots and then I found a pass for the Calhoun Parking area for quite a bit more. It looks like the Calhoun one is closer to the bigger restaurants south of the stadium and the bars east of the stadium however the Clifton lot is pretty cheap. Is there any major downsides to parking in the Clifton lot? We don't plan to stay there we plan to have a parking spot and then drag our cooler with us.

Calhoun garage will dump you into a lot of traffic, but it overlooks the stadium and is close to restaurants, etc. I avoid it because I have an hour drive and don’t want to spend time trying to get out of a garage and sitting in traffic.

There is a lot labeled “Clifton Lot,” and that one is new, and I’m sure it’s temporary because they just tore down a building UC bought. It’s the only surface lot I can think of by west campus, and it’s just across the street. It’s not a long walk.

Clifton Court is an on campus garage. I do not like west campus garages because of time getting in and out.

I used to park at the Stafford garage until it became permit only. It’s a small garage across the street from campus and just minutes from the stadium. Super convenient.
