Interesting quote from Pollard

I know that everyone is not a wrestling fan, but I'm surprised by all of the hate for it on here.

I agree with many on here that Pollard has done some really good things for ISU, especially for football and basketball. However, I don't think he gives a **** about wrestling (the same as many of you), which really bothers me as a wrestling fan. I understand its not a revenue generating sport but it wouldn't take much more investment for us to be competing for a National Title, which we have historically done.

It's not hate, it's just recognition of reality. If Pollard doubles our investment in wrestling, or triples it, and we compete for a National title, what does that really get us? The country doesn't pay attention to wrestling anymore. It's a footnote on the sports page for the vast majority of people. It would matter, to some degree, here in the state, but that's about it. As a smart AD, I expect Pollard to spend as much time with wrestling as he does with any other sport not named football or basketball. No more, no less.

Look, I know better than to insult wrestling fans. I've done that before and it did not go well for me. There is tons of passion there, and it's admirable. That passion, though, is also why it's tough for fans to see the sport without the rose colored glasses.

Thanks for putting that as nicely as possible. I totally get it, but it will still continue to bother me as a wrestling fan.

why do you seem McCarney a success and not Rhoads?

At what point will someone just remove you from this website permanently?

I was on board with moving on from McCarney from the day it happened...
Been on board with this CPR thing since ohhhh last year...

Not sure I mentioned either of these two coaches in my post.

Also my point was in jest to yotes mocking of all this hate on Pollard.

Lastly, check your sentences son. You're sounding like a fool. You're either just in a blind rage and posting without checking (in which case, grab a beer and chill) OR I don't know... I just do not know.

I would ask you this: IF we had a different AD, would the coaching hires have been better? You act like you think hiring a great coach should be simple and straight forward. Its not at all, and a lot of really good coaches do poorly at certain schools. I'll take JP's ability to evaluate coaching candidates over 90% of the AD's out there. Look at the struggles schools like Nebraska and Texas have had recently. Charlie Strong looks terrible at Texas, but does anyone actually think he's a bad coach? He was fantastic at Louisville so did the Texas AD make a horrible evaluation when he hired him?

I'm going to go with Gene Smith... did I win?

Nope, you lose. He hired Dan McCarney. He had a losing record so Gene Smith must be a bad AD. Oh wait, Ohio State doesn't think so.

Anybody want to wrestle??

We have been so bad in Wrestling for So Long that Nobody Cares Anymore.......The football coaches that Jamie has hired were all Good Coaching Hires.........

Chizik was the hottest young coaching prospect in the country when Jamie hired him and I think Gene would have succeeded after getting rid of both of those Milestones around his neck...McFarland and Bolt.....

Paul Rhoads was a good solid hire at the time and took us to 3 bowl games( with GC's players).....Paul's biggest problem was handling personnel and trying to Out Spread Offense the Texas Competition ...that was never gonna work

Matt Campbell brings 2 things this program desperately needs right now ...ENERGY & CONFIDENCE....Best hire by Jamie by a mile.

Head Coaching Experience.....An Offensive style that fits our culture, in an area where you can actually recruit players for that system....notice Matt mentioned Bill Snyder

Great Recruiter...Did you notice the smile and twinkle in Matt's eyes when he said: "I love to Recruit".

Mark my words Matt Campbell will take us to the Next Level.........

Go Cyclones

I really wish this BS would stop. There were far more DMAC players on CPR's first team than Chizik players. And there really were not many Chizk players on the subsequent Bowl teams either.

Chizik had a few well known recruits that were good players. The majority of them were busts. More CPR players on the last 2 Bowl teams than Chizik players. Go crunch the numbers......I have.

First, your usage of excess periods makes you look like an idiot and makes it tough to take your posts at all seriously. I don't think you're an idiot, so stop making yourself look like one.

Second, a coach being a good or bad hire is not based on how the hire looks at the time they are hired. It is based on how they turn out.

If you buy a can't miss stock and it tanks was it a good purchase? No!

If you take home the hottest girl at the bar and she gives you herpes was it a good catch? No!

If you hire a big name coach and he bolts or doesn't produce was it a good hire? No!

Everyone in the country liked both the Chizik hire and the CPR hire.

The fan base was pretty split on Hoiberg, with a lot of people thinking it was the dumbest move in the world. Outside of Ames, there were people literally laughing on the air about us hiring Hoiberg.

Your memory is incorrect, and your insight is insipid.
BS. I thought at the time Pollard was a maroon for not hiring Jim Harbaugh. And that is not the first time I questioned his own sense of own self worth.

Having known his father, Hoiberg's success in no way surprises me. He is his father's son.

“The most important thing I can do as an athletics director for our student-athletes is to hire the right head coaches,â€￾

With the state of our Wrestling program and the way the last two football coaches have flamed out, I almost spit out my drink when I got to that line.

I know this is the football board, but isn't ISU wrestling ranked 16 in the country?
