INSIDER: Quick analysis on Rayjon Tucker

Yes. He just didnt have any players who could hit shots after he passed to them last year. He isn't going to be an 18 ppg player, he is too reluctant to shoot his three and hits it at too low a percentage.

1) he was a freshman
2) he hit 36% from 3
3) no one said he was going to score 18 a game next year, but he certainly isn't a pass first guard.

If De Dousa comes back and you dont get Tucker you better believe KU is playing two true bigs at all times next year. Not too many teams in the country have the horses to go toe-to-toe with that kind of size for 40 minutes. Azubuike, De Sousa, McCormack and Lightfoot.
Imo, De Sousa is slightly overrated. He's got that "young, inexperienced, raw type player, that has yet to fail when he's needed" feel to him.

KU fans were clamoring for him last season because after Doke went down, they were desperate for anything in the post. His freshmen season, he was able to come in for short stretches because they had a healthy Doke. He was never needed to be "the guy." Given more minutes could expose more of his weaknesses.

And you seriously do not believe that those accolades could be accomplished if he went to Kansas? Come on.

I am not saying Tucker wouldn't be good at KU rather Prohms pitch to Rajon. Shayok and Tucker have some similar playing styles and Prohm can easily point to what that could result in at ISU.

Where is the example Self can point to that he will get that "Shayok type" role at KU? Not trying to be argumentative I am honestly not coming up with a good comp. Maybe Wiggins? That would be a tough sell considering his pedigree out of HS and not transferring but he was good in a featured role his one year.

Dedric Lawson had a lot of success but at PF in his one year. K.J. and Charlie Moore would be examples of it not working.

Malik Newman.

That's a good one, he definitely had that role... Malik was a McD AA and on NBA radar immediately and ended up not drafted after his year at KU.

Shayok was better and more impactfull at his role at ISU IMO.

I would say Shayok had the better season as a whole in terms of individual numbers but Newman may have had the biggest impact because he really carried that team in the Big 12 tournament and in their NCAA tournament run to the Final Four.

Shayok is like 23 yrs old and is just a normal body type for nba...DeSousa has that potential factor..nba as you know draft mostly on what could be and not what is..

Shayok got a g leagu combine invite...Shayok went from avg like 8-9ppg to nearly 20ppg at isu..

Would be foolish to think RT wouldn’t thrive at isu given what we lost..
Agreed. He would thrive at all of his final choices. That's why they are all on his final list.

Probably wouldn't. Kansas doesn't give players the offensive freedom Iowa State does. Also, Dotson got the combine invite because he is young and was a highly rated recruit. If Shayok was two years younger, he's 24, he would probably gotten invited. Combines are about potential and Dotson still has a ton of space to grow compared to Shayok. If you're coming to an ISU board, please take off your Jayhawk tinted glasses.
Wut? Didnt Lawson just accomplish similar accolades while posting the first 20/10 season since Blake Griffin? Didn't Graham just earn 1st team AA honors the year before that? Didnt Mason win NPoY the year before that?

But yeah, KU's system is really limiting...

So if there are no other players who can hit shots on your roster all the focus will be on Tucker??? I thought that was your original argument he was going to be wide open and the defense couldnt focus on him. Which is it?
Tucker wouldn't be playing on last year's team.

The point being is that he would be selling that 4 guard lineup to Tucker to try to land him and would be utilizing it at times if Tucker came to Kansas.

Would that change if they missed on Tucker and if the get DeSousa back? Depends on who else they do get. Self has stated that he wants to build his roster to be able to do that more. If his final roster is better suited to do something else then he will do something else.

No, no. It's because Penny Hardaway is just that good of a coach and everyone wants to play for him.
I know you are being facetious but Penny actually is one of the few coaches who can get their foot in the door on name alone. Most all the kids vying to play high major ball know Penny Hardaway and the player that he was. Kids do put weight into that, although it won't win them recruits.

To think Memphis is dirty just because they are in on these guys is a bit of a stretch in my opinion.

I can sort of see your point. He finished his career in 2007 when incoming college freshmen were in Kindergarten or First grade. To the local Memphis kids, it makes a lot of sense that his name would carry a decent amount of weight.
