Maybe this has been posted before, but I was wondering if anyone has information on us recruiting Indian Hills Players. I know we are in on a guard, but they have a couple of decent big men. Leon Powell and Laron Dendy. Has anyone seen them play? Dendy is 6'9' and was rated as a 4 star PF and a Rivals top 100 player in the high school ranks last year. He was a former Clemson commit.

JUCO players have to be outstanding for us to go after. If not they just carry too much baggage....

Actually the JUCO pipeline used to work pretty well for Tim Floyd and Larry Eustachy. We certainly don't want to make a living off of it, but I think it's good for McDermott to work that recruiting route as well.

How did a rivals 100, 4-star power forward form north carolina end up at Indian Hills in Iowa?

I will gladly take him though.

A DI coach probaly told him to go there. He can be somewhat hidden from other DI schools.

Indian Hills has a history of taking players that cannot make it into DI schools. Some have question marks in the classroom and as people. There is a reason most of these kids end up there and not in DI. In know in the last people have claimed they could have played Iowa and ISU to a close game. The coach just lets them play "streetball" and do their thing. I guess they are fun to watch play and I think they have put players in the NBA after 2 years.

This are what others have told me about IHCC.

The state of Iowa actually is known nationally for phenominal Juco basketball...Kirkwood and DMACC are anually two of the top d2 programs in the nation, and Indian Hills, Iowa Western, and Southeastern are always contenders at the D1 level. When it appears a player won't have the grades, or coaches are iffy on whether or not to offer a kid, they often encourage the kid to go Juco, and these are some of the top programs in the country...these Junior College coaches in Iowa have connections from coaches all over the country.

I know Iowa typically has a history of great Juco basketball but why not go to a Juco in texas or florida or california or indiana? This guy could have gone to any Juco, its just bizzare that he ended up in Iowa.

Unless his size is not reported right, it doesn't sound like this guy is going to help us be physical down low.

It is kind of mind boggling...nothing out of the ordinary though...Jerome Harper and Chris Alexander played on the same Indian Hills team, and they just recently had a player that went on to be a star at UTEP and lead them to the NCAA tourney...Justin Holt played there too (would have been an absolute stud if he could've stayed out of trouble).

Some states dont have many JUCO's or JUCO ball programs. DI coaches know where to send kids. DI coaches have ties to different JUCO coaches, trust them, and want to send kids they may want in the future to them.

I actually attended, and have an associate's degree from IHCC. It goes nicely with my Master's, and adds even more "grit" to my background.

When I was there, the athletes basically ran roughshod over the dorms, doing drugs, beating the crap out of dormies, and received no sanction from the school or the community for their misdeeds.

Don't know if that is different, now.

Looking at the cash we have in the bank wth the current big men for next year, looks like we need to add some more cash with a juco big man to make our account look better.

Maybe they just didn't like you.:biglaugh:

Indian Hills also produced Zach Morley. He was that shaggy headed 6 '8' guy that played at Wisconsin his remaining two years. I think he played from 03 to 05. He wasn't flashy but a solid player.

Terri Carroll was part of the pipeline to ISU when he coached at IHCC. He was a good coach there and won alot.

I went to school there and most athletes that were there were from really small town schools. IHCC was usually culture shock for them, so you can imagine what ISU would be.

Leon Powell is the only guy we'd want from IHCC right now, IMHO. And even he's questionable. He's a strong, undersized, power forward in the Kenny Pratt mold. He was recruited by Illinois and St. Louis out of high school, but i don't think his grades held up. I saw him play in High School, and he's a legit D1 player. But anyone that can't qualify out of high school is suspect...
