In memoriam of Brian Ferentz as Iowa's OC

Brian has done some things with the running game the last couple years that Iowa wasn't doing before- more inside zone, tosses/sweeps, pulling centers, some misdirection, etc. There is no reason to believe he won't make similar tweaks to the passing game.

His success in improving the run game speaks for itself. Iowa has averaged 4.5 yards per carry both years he has held the run game coordinator title, which is better than every year since 2008 when Shonn Greene was the best RB in the country.

Big Ten defenses were also terrible this year

These guys did it right, gold star.

People will have A LOT of fun watching football! A LOT.

Heard they were going to interview Chip Kelly for the job, but they were afraid he'd slow things down too much.

But Brian does have experience at the Patriots. So all they need to do is find a Brady and Gronk.

You two need some work on the internets thingy.

Huge get?? Was he going anywhere? If they are going that offense, what players did they recruit for it, because it appears this was in the works for a long time.

Iowa would be an epic failure at that. They don't have anywhere close to the personal to do

So John Miller thinks that if Brian has success he wouldn't be surprised at all if he becomes the head coach in a few years, with (get this) Kirk being the offensive line coach under Brian. That guy says some of the stupidest **** I've ever heard.

He is half right but the part about KF coaching O-line if BF were to take over as the head coach is idiotic.

Funniest thing I heard was Murphy et al on sound off talking about integrity of the hiring and his character. 1st thing I thought of was Rabdo and subsidized housing to each their own.

Why would you think of Rhabdo when thinking of BF or this hire? He wasn't even on the staff when that happened.

I think it is probably the best hire for them. I think Davis was a horrible hire, didnt understand what Kirk wants to do at all.
Also, Brian Ferentz is highly thought of in the coaching world. If he would of went to the NFL to coach the oline under O'Brien he would probably be on his way to an OC in the NFL. He was promoted basically every year he was with the Patriots. You can still run a pro style offense but mix things up to not be so predictable. But most of their passing problems will only be fixed by better WRs.

You sure you're not a Hok fan? Just checking, since you seem to have a boner for all things Iowa in every thread.

How so?

I liked ISU's offense being controlled yet efficient and playing within themselves instead of trying to keep up with the pace of other teams that actually have the athletes to do it. That's generally how ISU is going to be successful, the way KSU or someone does things.

I honestly don't know a lot about Iowa...I know when I've seen them, they're less predictable due to a good run game, like a lot of decent football teams operate.... some posters on here going out of their way to read and talk about ANYTHING having to do with Iowa is a bit more fandom in a way, no?

I also don't see the world in Big 12 colored glasses...I find it funny to read posts on CF with people doing their best to care about West Virginia's bowl game like it justifies ISU somehow.

Their "good run game" is mostly due to who they play

If Iowa's offense is truly going to change it won't happen next year or even the year after that. It will take a few years because they don't have any receiving threats that can stretch the field. Iowa may be "less predictable" but that isn't going to fix their lack of talent at WR.

Isn't there a law about reviewing a certain number of candidates ? Just asking as I am sure this job could pay for several families in Section 8 housing. Was BF on teams that Danny Mac pummeled? Is that why he hates us so much or because we make fun of Captain Kirk? Did Iowa meet diversity requirement on this?

Nepotism sometimes is great. Name a better special teams coach than Sean Snyder. Sean had exactly 0 coaching experience before assuming the position. And yes, Sean reports directly to Bill.

I'd love to see the Gazette do a poll to see what the tavern hoks actually think about this promotion. Something like-
- Good hire
- Bad hire
- WTF?
