Yeah, but why penalize 2 people when only one new inactive player comes in? Of course, in this case, Haney hauled water for the other two. Collins looked like he was scared of his own shadow. Jay was pouting that they were rushing him so hard in the cold weather.
So, if Hanie had gone down, the Bears would have had to have a non-QB finish the game at QB. If I remember correctly, they put Hanie in late in the third quarter.
Sounds like a classic screw-up by the Bears coaching staff.
Exactly. I believe there was under two minutes to go when he came in the game. Had they been smart, they would have used Collins until the 4th quarter, then inserted Hainey in the game. That way, had he been injured, either Cutler or Collins could both return to the game.

I can't believe Lovie Smith got criticized for bringing in Hanie in the third. Did anyone watch Todd Collins play? He's an embarassment to the QB profession, he's been horrible every time he's stepped on the field this year.
This is the NFC championship, you can't wait three minutes to bring in Hanie and waste another possesion. They needed to go to Hanie right away. If he got hurt they would have been better off with Forte or Hester running the wildcat then with Collins under center.
Now why Collins was the number two and Hanie the number three is another argument.
I haven't heard anyone criticize Lovie for bringing Hanie when he did. I know a lot more people are questioning why Collins was even the backup to begin with? I know I am.
How so? The Bears hadn't done **** prior to Hanie coming in, and running a wildcat the remainder of the game would've been better than Collins playing anymore. Hanie scored on that first possession, so saying it was a screw up is stupid. It was by far the best piece of strategy the Bears had all day.
