I would bet...

I am not concerned with running back. Shontrelle Johnson impressed me with his running skills. The only concern is that I don't remember him making any catches and therefore don't know if he will be as complete of a running back as AROB was. Johnson can run, but I'm not sure what his receiving skills are.
 
I can see us winning more games next year than this year. There will probably be about 3-4 conference teams that we don't match up well with, but we'll be in every other game next year. I don't fear playing Iowa at the Jack, or UConn for that matter. If our offense gels and the D is as good as people thing it will be, we should be back in the bowl hunt. Go State!

recruits? In an indirect way. As in, "How does the general public view our program?"

When people stop assuming we'll suck, our recruiting will pick up.

This, its called public perception.
 
Our preseason rank will be just above KU and no one else. But that's to be expected because frankly, the returning teams appear to be better on paper. OU, aTm, OSU, Mizzou, Baylor -- these teams all look solid now, and not enough changes in turnover to make them appear worse than us for next year. UT has the talent and will have coaching changes to put them back in the top. TTech and KSU are more unknowns, and I could see them being placed in a lower tier that includes ISU and KU, but is there really any reason to vault ISU over either of them? None that I can see on paper.

I'm loving CPR and the direction that this program is heading, but preseason rankings won't be putting us into the top tier until we start finishing seasons in the top tier. I look forward to those days and I believe we can get there.

I think due to a quirk in the scheduling for the new Big 12 conference, KU actually has to come to Ames again.

KSU has to play in Lawrence 2 years in a row (this year and next year). There are a couple of other unique things that were hard to avoid.

The Big 12 should have gone to a 4-4-1 home/away/neutral schedule. Already had MU-KU in KC, OU-UT in Dallas, ISU-KSU in KC. Tech played Baylor at a neutral site this year, I think. Should have "forced" those teams to keep the neutral site game and gotten a A&M-OSU matchup going. Being 4/5 or 5/4 is stupid.

I know I'm gonna get ripped for this, but the odds say ISU starts the season 1-7 next year and finishes 2-10.

@ Baylor - L (RG3 went 21/24 last time against ISU and won by 28 points. On the road too.)
@ Mizzou - L (Still have Gabbert)
Texas A&M - L (Tannehill will pick apart the defense)
@ Texas Tech - L (Another year under Tubs and on the road)
Kansas - W
@ Oklahoma -L
Oklahoma State - L
@ Kansas State - L (its still a road game)

Almost every toss-up game is on the road (UConn, Baylor, Tech, and KSU). I think CPR will probably get one of those toss-ups to finish 3-9, but without AA and the toughest schedule around, things are probably going to get ugly.

It will be surprising if ISU isn't picked last.

Kabooom! I just dont see it with Paul Rhoads, if the offense is as bad as it has been maybe, but we can only get better on offense right? We had the hardest schedule in the country this season with an offense that didnt have a heartbeat most games aside from running the ball here and there but no legit throwing threat, can things really get that much worse? I dont think so. I will say it again ISU will be a top three defense next season in the Big 12. That in itself will keep this team 6-6 to 7-5.

ISU will be a good on defense, but the offense must improve for it to mean anything. 20.8 points per game in 2010 and 19.9 points per game in 2009 will not get it done.

And the offense may be really, really bad based on the past results. Tiller has started 4 games, 2 in 2009 and 2 in 2010. In those 4 games, ISU has averaged 11.5 points per game. If you take out the 2 defensive touchdowns against UNI, its 7.75 points per game.

I have faith in CPR, but life without AA will not be easy.

I agree, but from what I heard at the game Saturday and from what Randy Peterson has been saying, Barnett may be better next season than Arnaud was as a Senior this season, he has been that good in practice.

Remember when they said "Don't worry about the linebackers" and they were right? Let's hope the staff is right about Barnett! [Fingers crossed]
 
Honestly, I'm more concerned about our receivers than I am a QB. Tiller had plenty of bad passes against Mizzou. But for every single one of those, I'll bet you can find a play where the receiver had the ball thrown right to him but he still dropped it. You can have the most accurate passer in the country, but if you don't have guys who can hold on to the ball when it gets thrown to them, it doesn't mean anything.

Colin Franklin, Jake Williams, and A-Rob accounted for 1135 out of a team total of 2071 passing yards, as well as 8 out of the total of 14 passing TD's. The Dariuses and Josh Lenz, as well as some other guys I don't know so well, need to step up their catching skills in 2011 if we are going to stand a chance.

Same here, I think we have a solid group of WR's but none of the guys back next year are big play threats and all have had struggles with drops. I think Jake's report with AA was a big reason for his sucess. Hopefully Barnett/Capello/Tiller can kind of find their go to guy as well. The guys we have back have a lot of physical advantages over Jake but he had AA's trust that he would make tough catches, while it seemed like our other WR's kind of disappeared at those times.
 
If Tiller is our QB next year it will likely be ugly. But I like our chances with Capello/Barnett at QB, and Shontrel at RB. Hermans third year here, I think we are under good hands with Rhoads. Wally should help keep us in a lot of games, I think our D is shaping up to be pretty good next year...
 
Obviously Tiller brings some stuff to the table the others don't. But I think we need to start passing more in our spread offense.. and I would prefer Capello because of his accuracy, but from what I'm hearing about Barnett hes def 1-B(or would it be 1-A?)

Now if Tiller really becomes a good passer by next year, then he would be great... But I don't know how likely that would be. Hes obviously got the jump start though since he has experience... really just depends on what direction Herman/Rhoads want to go with the offense now...

Maybe we should help them out and give them a QB who can routinely throw a good ball on the money? I'm not bashing Arnaud, like the guy a lot.. but I'm not going to pretend he was a great passer.
