I really hate Iowa

You know what gets me is we can beat Iowa but then we tank the rest of the season. I saw this on another board and I just stared at it for about ten minutes before I thought what a crappy conference record. And to think that we didn't play the top three teams in the Big 12 the last 2 years. Just look at these results and tell me your happy with where the program is. This is our conference record over the last 10 years. We have 1 winning season, just 1 fricken winning season.

<span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%">1996 1-7
1997 1-7
1998 1-7
1999 1-7
2000 5-3
2001 4-4
2002 4-4
2003 0-8
2004 4-4
2005 4-4

</span>This is truely pathetic. If Mac can't get it done this year, it's time for him to go.

No wonder Sqhawk fans laugh at us and call the game ISU's superbowl. Hell we didn't even play TX, OK and TT last year. I'd give my left nut to win a conference championship and go to a New Years day bowl. I could care less if Iowa kicked our ass as long as we were playing for a championship!

Uh, do you not see a definite uptrend in those stats you showed there? If not, that's what is truly pathetic.

Obviously there is a trend upward in his records...but really. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. If ISU goes 4-4 in the conference again next year, (which is what my belief is) then that isn't just upswing... that's stagnation. I'm not saying that Mac needs to go or that ISU needs to do this or that. I'm just saying that that would be a lot of .500 conference records in the last six years, with one 0-8 thrown in there as well.

The best part of the Hawkeye's thinking that the ISU/UofI game is our superbowl... is that college football doesn't even have a superbowl as part of it's tradition. So Hawkeye fans relate ISU to the NFL, because that's what we are to them, an NFL team that they can't beat.

In other news... for those of you who followed the World Cup, Drew Tate isn't the only one who tackles people with his head. Still amazes me that Zinedine Zidane can knock a guy off his feat by head butting him, yet Tate has a helmet on and gets a concussion.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(AlanAldaClone @ 07-11-06 4:43 pm) [post=7005]Quoted post[/post]</div><div class='quotemain'> It didn't help our case at all when that idiot coed went on national TV before last year's game and said she didn't care if ISU lost every other game as long as they won today. The SQUAWK fans jumped all over that one. Someone should have told her to shut her silly mouth. The network must have had to look far and wide to find that idiot because I don't know of one other Cyclone fan who feels that way. Or maybe she was a SQUAWK plant. [/b][/quote]

kuck tom fakert and the rest of his beakface friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would also bet that girl didnt know one other team we played last year besides maybe nebraska (long shot if she did) there are not a whole lot of girls i know that know much about our team and could give a rats ass whether we win or lose really, they just want to go tailgating and enjoy somewhat if we win. this will sound sexist, and i know there are some girls out there that know their stuff, but the majority dont, so interview a freaking guy!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(cllions05 @ 07-06-06 9:40 am) [post=6509]Quoted post[/post]</div><div class='quotemain'> It really disturbs me that squawk fans still use the "ISU's Superbowl" mentality. This is a straight quote from HR. They were doing a prediction of the season.

Unfortunately Hawk fans are not the people creating this perception. It is Clone Fan. ABC's broadcast of the game last season showed clips of numerous Clone fans around campus proclaiming their hatred of the Hawks and wanting to win that game no matter what happens the rest of the year.

This is far from an isolated incident. After watching the 2002 game with about a dozen other Clone fans, all they could keep saying afterwards was that after that win, they didn't care what happenned the rest of the season.

I hate it when they say that also -- but lets face it until we start winning conference championships the squaks will be throwing this in our faces. Mac has to get it done this year. The North is ours for the taking -- nothing less is acceptable.

One day we might get respect, in other cases maybe we should settle for the fact we'll never get the respect we deserve from Iowa.

You had me at 'I really hate Iowa'. You had me at 'I really hate Iowa'

I get the whole "i'd rather beat Texas or Nebraska" thing. Sure, these individual conference games are really, really, really important. Get it. Totally.

But for me....I want the Iowa game eleventy billion times more.

They say we're the little brother. Yep. History has dictated that. And i'm okay with it for now. Its a changing. But it makes me edgy. I like edgy. Because its THAT much more satisfying when we stick it to em.

The most important game is the next one. But for me, the mostestest importantest one is the Iowa game.

I'll get to thinking about more noble thoughts.....like "beating defending Nat'l Champ Texas is bigger than Iowa" thinking at some point. Actually, no i won't. Never. Never evereverever. See, to me, beating Iowa and winning the division/conference/bowl tier are different things. Is it my Super Bowl? Nah. Its my Iowa game. Thats the beauty of a 'Rivalry Game'. They are part of a season, but an event unto itself.

Love this thread.

I would be more happy to beat Nebraska every year in the Big 12 North - it means more in the conference.

I do not mind losing to Kansas if we beat Nebraska, Iowa, and Texas. That helps our recruiting better.

I have hated EIU ever since I was 10 yrs old because they are a bunch of arrogant pissheads. My goal is to run for Iowa Governor someday and give that whole part of the state to Illinois(sorry to any Illinois Clone fans) and obviously I would extract the good ISU Iowans back to the rest of our state with attractive incentive packages to get the brains back to Iowa. Doing this would increase the knowledge of the State of Iowa by double digit %. The Pukeye game is the most important game of any season to me.........that is, until the day after that game. Then forget little brother and we have bigger fish to fry. Iowa, to me, is like a wart on the ass of life and ISU is the compound W.

And to say that only ISU fans feel that way is a Crock too. I have seen plenty of EIU fans wearing shirts that say "F*%K State" at games, have seen Pukeye license plates that put a slam on ISU, so I know it is just as bad on the enemy's side. Why else would EIU fans go on Miller's show saying we should go to DIV 1AA? Not because ISU is just another game and lets get on to the rest of the season. I have Squawk fans for friends(but pray for healing) and I can assure you ISU is huge on their list as well. Remember a couple of years ago when we beat IA 4 yrs in a row and they were interviewing some of the EIU senior players right before the big game who had never beaten us?????? There were two or three of them who made comments on their hatred towards ISU. And these were PLAYERS!!!!!!

The fans ABC interviewed before the big game last year could have just as easily been Iowa fans. It might have been some affects of tailgating helping the talk some, or they could have had the same thinking I have and it wasn't the day after. I don't know.......

All I do know is it is EIU's futile attempt of having an excuse for us beating their ass 6 out of 8 yrs and that is all there is to it>>>>>>

Funny, Kakert says ISU fans would be happy at 1-11 if they beat iowa. I don't recall very many ISU fans calling last year a success. A lot of people are still upset about last year. On the other hand, iowa fans look at last year as a success. The teams ended up with the SAME RECORD.

I'm sure she wasn't egged on to say that by the producer at all.

I wonder if all of those Hawk fans thought it was our SuperBowl when we were losing 15 in a row. They just can't get used to the fact that the game is competitive again and we have been winning more than our share. The built in excuses are laughable.

You guys really let their commentary get to you. They talk about the Superbowl a lot more than we do, which tells me they think about Iowa State a lot more than they should. That's enough for me.

Just say, "Hey, you're the ones talking about it". /shrug

<span style="color:#000000">Had the good fortune of attending the great Seneca comback/or the great Hawkeye collapse (however one wishes to title it) and observed the most awe-inspiring event.

the ISU band in full regalia..marching with nerdy indifference through a sea of black and gold in the parking lot. Akin to the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae facing incredible odds...the Band gained my forever respect as they exhibited huge man/chick boulders by what they did.

That being said....the Big 12 Championship game is my Superbowl this year. :-) </span>
