College was awesome, but I think whatever stage of life you're at has it's own unique characteristics that make it great.
As someone who doesn't need nice things to be happy, being a broke college student with no responsibility beyond myself was a blast. It's a short window where it's socially acceptable to get drunk 5 nights week and sleep around. Enjoy it while you're there.

If there's a concert tonight and a test tomorrow and you can't decide which to do, go to the concert.
The thing about college I didn't like was always feeling like I SHOULD be studying whenever I was doing something fun. I think they call that the Protestant Guilt.
The thing I didn't like about being out of school was the gradual dawning on me that there is no 3 month summer vacation in real life. There is "teaching", but I said real life! :wink:
I went to Ames this past weekend to hang out with my friends who are still there and it was a blast. That being said, we are all getting old. We only stayed out until the bars closed and we were absolutely dead yesterday. I can't take a hangover like that very well any more.
Enjoy college while you can, cause it goes by really fast. Before you know it, everyone is getting married and having ugly babies. It sucks.

You and me both my friend. Having no responsibility was great. I love where Im at now, but it really has its tough moments with mortgage, wife, kids, loans, etc.
but wouldn't you also say, to have a successful "post college" you must have a successful college?

There was almost a huge brawl outside element last night. That was pretty fun to watch from my balcony at legacy...
Very true. I go up every so often to visit some that are still there (though thats really dropped off). Was definitely a lot of fun, and while i'd love to 'visit' the college life for a week or two, i dont think i could live in it again.
Couldn't agree more, I love where I'm at in my life but there are times I would love to go back to only needing money to eat and alter the chemical state of my body.
Not for myself. I was at every party I could make. Most companies do not look at GPA's, grad school does.
Success in the work force comes from 2 parts, knowledge and social ability. (networking doesn't hurt)
Anything over a 3.0, measurable pulse, and ablilty to breath = the perfect grad school candidate. :wink:
The thing I miss the most about college is having friends living down the hall/next door/everywhere.
I never had more free time than when I was in college. Don't feel like going to that 8 AM class? No problem. Don't feel like making it to work at 8 AM? Big Problem.

There are certain things that I love about being out of school, but also certain things I loved about college. In college you had a ton of free time to hang out with friends, party, not worry about paying all of these bills, and long breaks. College life was awesome, all you had to do was study every once in a while for tests.
In the working world, the biggest plus is having that consistent pay check, not having to take finals, and buying things you couldn't afford in college.
That being said, I love going back to ISU and partying on football weekends. I wouldn't mind going back and re-living a couple of my college years, namely my 3rd, 4th, or 5th year.
I graduated in the spring of '09, so my thoughts might be a little different than somebody who's been out of college for 5+ years.

Yea, that daily morning conversation you have with yourself where you talk yourself into staying home or going to class, I miss that. The same thoughts still go through my head when it comes to work but the "grown up" in me always wins.
This. I partied my *** off in college, but always made sure I had my work done first. Undergrad grades don't mean much (read: "anything") in my line anyways.
