I love bill as our coach!!!!!

Johnny Orr was pretty much shown the door. He wasn’t ready to retire. Get your facts straight .
Exactly. JO was asked to depart because he wouldn't adapt his run-and-gun style to the things (better defense and rebounding) needed at the time to win conference titles and get to Sweet 16s/Elite 8s. ISU moved on and went to Sweet 16s, Elite 8s, and won conference regular titles and conference tournaments under TF and LE. MBB was terrible before JO. ISU moved on from JO and things improved.

BF doesn't want to play physical basketball. It is what it is. So, he'll have nice seasons. And with the significant weakening of the Big 12 next year as noted above, he may win some conference titles. But he is unlikely to make any sort of deep NCAA tourney runs because he doesn't want to play the physical basketball necessary to do that. To do that, ISU more physicality and post players. ISU had one real post player this year. She went down with injury and things degraded from the way they started.

I don’t think he should be fired or forced out but I don’t find the women’s games to be very enjoyable to watch anymore. It is a lot of dribble, dribble, dribble forced shot, missed three pointer or turnover. I found the constant Ashley iso to have a layup blocked or missed to be super frustrating. Note, I didn’t say Bill or Ashley were not great or that there terrible people. I just don’t find it enjoyable to watch whereas I did in the past.

BF situation reminds me of Tom Davis at Iowa. Consistently good & great on occasion. Some vocal newbie fans get grumpy because they want more. Iowa BB has never been as good consistently after they ran off TD.
Fran has more 20 win seasons since he was hired in 2010 than Bill has 20 win seasons the same point in 2010.

That said, sign me up for more Fennelly. I see more good to great years in the immediate future

BFs incoming class includes a 6'2 wing, a 6'2 forward and most likely the strongest incoming freshman in the country. Plus Fritz is flat out hard nosed. Seems like he's already adapted but some just want something to ***** about.

I am super interested to see what’s he does with Audi. I watched her state finals game. She has some skills but BF is going to need to figure how to best utilize her strength.

According to the metrics we had the third toughest schedule in the country and the fifth toughest non-conference schedule. It is always a balance of the buy games to fill the home schedule (the budget dictates what type teams you can bring in), the in-state schools and typically a holiday MTE. Typically who is in the MTE will determine the tough out of conference games. 27 of our 32 games this year where Quad 1 or 2 (for reference South Carolina had 23 of 34 Quad 1 or 2) - which is a REALLY tough schedule. Some of the names may not be national powers that we played but they were mostly solid teams.
Winner winner chicken dinner! Some folks on here really have no clue what they are talking about. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder where the evidence is that Orr was asked to leave? I suppose to placate him they just named the high dollar place at Hilton after him and hung a banner in his honor?

A big difference is BF built this program from nothing. As long as he is getting to the tournament he can be ISU's coach. Too many fans want to be pissed about the bad times instead of enjoying the good times.

He wasn't afraid to let people know he was pushed out. And he relished calling the guy that did it a ash hole. I agreed with him. All the accolades came well after he was gone.

He specifically told me that. Gene forced him out. He was still bitter several years later.

I appreciate two things about Bill. First, his recruiting the past few years has really improved. Soares, Fritz and Jordao being recent examples. The '23 class is ranked #13 nationally and includes 3 players ranked in the top 60!

I also appreciate that Bill's players don't whine to the refs all the time; they focus on the game and not the refs. Coaches that whine themselves create whining players. But Bill stands up for his players when the refs need some encouragement.

True fact, JO was forced out and let AD’s know that he was available to coach again. He was in contention for a major Conf job but it didn’t develop and knowing JO the salary probably wasn’t to his liking. He was a character and a quote machine. He retired to a home off the Gold Coast in the Gulf, said “I thought I had money until I moved down there”.

I remember at the time Johnny wasn't ready to retire and had a really good senior class coming back (Hoiberg, Meyer, Michalick). Gene believed a chance to inherit that team would be enticing to coaching candidates and wanted to get a new coach before the roster dropped off.

Apparently by saying that you think Bill is an overrated coach and underachieved this year that means you want him gone... Or pointing out that he has had two players carry his style of play for the last 8 years means you want him gone... Our fan base is super sensitive if you say anything negative about Bill.

Posts 18, 20 & 35 make it pretty clear that they want Bill gone. And one of those posters has posted a few times in this thread. So yeah, saying some posters want him gone is a fair statement and has nothing to do with sensitivity.

I don't want him gone, I'm just saying he's not above criticism. I also don't want the keys handed to Billy. JFC our women's hoops fanbase are a bunch of sensitive Sally's when it comes to Bill.

Great, then you weren't one of them who called for him to be gone. So don't assume they are talking about you when people say some are calling for his head. People have flat out said it.

I don't think he is above criticism and I think handing the program over to Billy who has zero head coaching experience and has coached nowhere but here under his dad would be a mistake.

But I don't think it is overly sensitive to think it is very shortsighted to call for his head as some have done. I worked at Hilton during WBB games prior to Bill. I know what it was like before.
