Hypothetical Power 5+ND realignment

Move out Purdue, Northwestern or Indiana and insert Iowa State. We never see Iowa and Iowa State in the same division?

or

IA, IAST, MN, NE, IL, KS, KST, WI?

Only problem I see with that, a lot of Werewolves' alignment is well-structured, so moving ISU to Iowa's region, Notre Dame is the odd one out, I think — Illinois/Northwestern and IU/Purdue need to stay together. Then I'm not sure where ND would move, doesn't really fit with division that's mostly old Big 8, so it'd need to go east/south, requiring a reshuffle of other divisions.

It is a fun exercise, but not sure how 8 or 9 team divisions make sense. To play 7 division games and 5 non-division games seems off. I also am not a huge fan of any more than an 8 team playoff. IMO there is a big difference between teams seeded 1-4 and teams seeded 13-16. A large number of playoff teams detracts from the regular season. I like that a September loss can knock a team out of the national championship race.

I like a 6 division 11 team structure. Play 10 division games and 2 non-conference games. The division schedule is balanced for every team- 5 home/5 road games. Have the 6 division champs receive automatic bids to the playoff and then create a process for naming 2 wildcard teams.

Divisions would be regionally based, but IMO there could be adjustments to teams every two years to balance the strength of each division. I would also require non-conference games be against teams from the 6 divisions.

If there would be significant realignment, the only probable scenario would be reverting back to 10-team B10, SEC, ACC and PAC10 as follows:

B10: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, NW, Illinois, Purdue, IU, Michigan, Mich ST, Ohio ST

SEC: LSU, Ole Miss, Miss St, Auburn, Bama, UK, Tenn, Vandy, Florida, Georgia

ACC: UVa, Duke, UNC, WF, NCSt, Clemson, South Carolina, GTech, FSU, Miami FL

P10: Washington, Wash St, Oregon, Oregon St, Cal, Stanford, USC, UCLA, ASU, Arizona

Then you have the following fill in the gaps:

Big East: Boston College, UConn, Syracuse, Rutgers, VA Tech, Maryland, Pitt, Penn St, WVU, Louisville

Big 12: ISU, NU, KU, KSU, Mizzou, Arkansas, OU, OK ST, Texas, Texas A&M

MWC: BU, TCU, Houston, Texas Tech, New Mexico, Utah, BYU, Colorado, Colorado St, Boise ST

Notre Dame stays indy. G5 conferences stay as-is.

Each conference plays 9 game round robin.

8 team playoff. 7 auto qualifiers with conference champs plus one at-large from indies, conference runner-up or G5 team.

1st round playoff games replace CCGs with top 4 seeds hosting games the first weekend in December.

NY6 and other bowls remain as-is. CFB calendar stays as-is.

BTN picks up Big East. ESPN picks up B12N, PACN adds MWC.
