Huskers hire.... Mike Riley?

DE had the luxury of not starting from rock bottom because of what Riley did previously.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is going to turn out to be a good hire for them. And if he only wins 9 games per year he won't get fired becasue he's not a complete d-bag.
Riley went 93-80 with a 58-63 conference record.Never finished better than tied for 3rd in the pac 10, hasn't finished higher than 3rd in the north division since the p12 expanded. He's won less than 20% of his games vs rated teams and his best bowl wins are the Las Vegas and Emerald bowl. Alamo Bowl is the best bowl he led OSU to. That can all be assumed to improve at a better job but it really shows the AD lied thru his teeth pretending firing Bo was about W/L's. Oh and the biggest kicker is that he's a well known west coast offense guy, how did that fly the last time Nebby brought in a guy like that. Everything about this process is identical to the Callahan hiring, the result will be too.
Ugh. Been listening to all the complaining today on husker shows. What a miss. Shawn Richorst has staked his job on an average coach. The guy being 60 may hire Scott Frost to help him. Shawn must have been tired of the Bo Pelini Act. Maybe when he came on he was told to let Bo have a year and then can his ***. Recruiting is dropping off also.
More people polled want Pelini back than the Reilly Relief.

A place like theirs with that history and tradition should aspire to be in the national championship hunt. No different than Kentucky or Duke in hoops, or 'Bama, SC and Notre Dame in football
He was absolutely fired for more than his W/L record. Other than his consistent 9 wins there wasn't much to like about the guy. Players loved him but he was always defensive with the media and never seemed to care too much for the fan base. The drastic change to Callahan's offense was 10 years ago when Nebby was a ground and pound team. The change this time won't be as drastic. All I'm saying is Riley will have a better chance of success at Nebby than he did at OSU and everyone saying this is a bad hire and pointing to his record to support that are comparing apples and oranges.
I've heard he is great at identifying talent. If he can get the kids he wants to come to Lincoln, and has a competent staff to coach them up, then he'll be fine in the Big 10.

The funny thing about the Husker vs Husker fan debates is that all most Husker fans will have to do is hear person (Tom Osborne) endorse Reilly and they'll all buy in. By the time next season kicks off, they'll be back to the dbags we are used to.

He might be a really good coach but I'd think anyone short of a superstar coach can stop Nebraskas slide into mediocrity. That Texas talent pool is drying up, they can't recruit the academic fringes in the B10 and the high schoolers of today were toddlers last time they were playing in top shelf bowls.
yes, he had one great year, and then two other years that are right on par with what Riley's average seasons were and his down season was right on par with Riley's down seasons.
The quote I responded to said that nobody outside of Riley had won there and that they'd go back to being terrible without him. Obviously that can't be the case since another coach came in and basically did what Riley did except his one good season in four year pattern actually resulted in a 11 win season.
Do not want to hear that he can find more players in Nebby than in Oregon. Also, do not think he recruited against Oregon that much since Oregon recruits the full country. He just was never going to keep up with the blue bloods.
I don't know how people that don't really know him other than looking up his record know enough to call it a terrible hire. How will he recruit? How are is schemes (I think historically he has been creative)? Motivator? Organized? Good teacher?
