Hurricane Matthew

saw the Nightly News and interviews with multiple people riding it out because "it won't be that bad" "we can handle it" "Florida has had hurricanes before, this will be no different"

It's like natural selection via hurricane.

If I've got multiple days' warning that a devastating tornado-esque storm is coming straight at me with 15ft feet of water and I can get out, I'm getting the hell out of dodge.

Cap on sideways people may be victims of natural selection.

Yes, I have. Actually I just got off the phone with a colleague there, he's hunkered down with his generator "Just in case". So, what did I miss?

Then you will know the city doesn't drain well, and the beach is essentially a barrier island. Let's say there is massive embellishment, which I don't doubt, even if you cut the predicted surge in half, that's trouble.

The eye is still 250 miles away, with the strongest northern bands between 150-200 miles away, and it's moving 13 mph. Give it another 10 hours or so.

If this thing manages to stay offshore it could mean the difference between 100's of millions in damage versus 10's of billions.

I remember seeing people partying on Bourbon Street in New Orleans the night before Katrina, because they didn't think it would be that bad. Good to see stupidity doesn't change.

Looks like Florida's Atlantic coast has been spared the worst of the wind. The eye wall has so far stayed just offshore, keeping the highest winds out to sea. There is still the issue of heavy rain and storm surge, but the fact that the center did not make landfall is definitely good news. Hopefully, it will continue to keep the worst of the wind over open water and not over land.

Last night, TWC was showing the forecast tracks of the various computer models and it looks like a child's finger painting. Nearly every projection line went in an entirely different direction as every other line. Some went off to the northeast, some curled around and back into south Florida, some went all the way down back into the Carribean, and others just ended in the middle of the screen. Very odd stuff that just goes to show how weather forecasting is still not even remotely close to being an exact science.

NOTHING YET!! Like said previously, it has not hit Jacksonville yet....

Why does God hate haiti?

Well when I vacationed in the Dominican Republic, the local Dominicans we talked to were very open about this. The Dominicans and the Haitians do not get along, they don't like each other. The Dominicans believe that the Haitians acceptance of Voodoo religions is one of the main reasons Haiti is constantly getting hit with natural disasters. Not saying I believe it but the Dominicans we talked to were very open about it.

Makes sense. So the voodoo is even stronger than the Steve Deace shill. Excellent.

And if nothing happens they'll be right.

ah yes, because taking a gamble on a cat 4 hurricane sounds like something intelligent people would do.

Already one dead because ambulance couldn't get to them safely. Wonder if that person wishes they had left.
