Hurricane Ida

so an entire major US city can go dark by one tower going offline? And we publicize it? If I was a terrorist...

You do realize that one software bug in one alarm system in one control room in Ohio caused a blackout covering 7 states (OH, MI, PA, NJ, NY, MA, CT) and one Canadian province (ON) in 2003?

Or that in fact accidentally shutting down one power line caused a widescale power outage in California, Arizona, and NW Mexico in 2011?

Considering these are well-known events, I'm guessing the terrorists are already aware they can temporarily shut down the power grid. Or poison an entire drinking supply by tampering with a reservoir. Or a host of different things.

Many Des Moines and Omaha metro powerline crews are heading south this week to help out. They will be paid very very well for their time but personally know a few families who won’t sleep well until they return.

This explains why the equipment that has sat next to our yard to replace a bad line from a few months ago disappeared before they did anything. They now have had locating crews make and flag our lawn 3 times. I have 75 flags for all the stuff. It’s a pain in the rear to mow. I understand they should be there now but irritates me that the peed around for a over month with us and still nothing.

Yeah, mowing with those stupid flags really sucks.

Agreed, and I also want to repeat, I understand them sending workers down to help and support it. Just wish they would have actually worked when they dropped the equipment off. Well, they did dig a hole on the neighbors side and but a cone by it. My neighbors are idiots so I did enjoy that.

The power company that got my street up and running 10 days after the derecho was from Los Angeles. I talked with the foreman and they were coming in from New York. That's the job he said, traveling and repairing or replacing lines, etc. He hadn't been home since early June. Appreciate what these teams do.
