Hurricane Ida

They love finding the wind tunnels and then "report" from there.

Sounds like the storm isn't going to directly hit new Orleans but instead the eye wall is just going to park on it.

Derecho was worse.

If a cat 2-3 hurricane was moving at 40-50 mph or more and lasted only 15-30 minutes you may have an argument. However imagine that same derecho moving at 7 mph and maintaining it's 100+ mph wind gusts at it crawled across the state? Not too much would be left standing. Let alone the water problems.

Yeah - no. I'm guessing you've never witnessed hurricane damage in person before.

My in-laws got nailed by that derecho, and while there were trees knocked down and damage to siding and roofs, everything was left standing. Meanwhile, earlier I saw firsthand the damage Katrina caused, and how a year later the effects were still present. It's not even the first time I've seen hurricane damage - when I was still in middle school my dad took me to Homestead, FL for a Hurricane Andrew Habitat for Humanity cleanup and rebuild. That was a wake up call for a kid.

The amounts of destruction aren't even comparable.

Yeah I don't remember the derecho having a 15ft storm surge.

I wouldn't have known about or what a derecho is if it wasn't for Cyclone Fanatic. I think I googled it around a month ago and it's not like I'm not watching national news every night. I think the Adventure Land death got more coverage than the derecho that seems to be CF legend.

A category 4 hurricane is worse than the derecho. But the derecho that hit last year did not get nearly enough coverage nationally or locally. It was like a pretty serious tornado was on the ground from Boone to Cedar Rapids. I can't imagine there has ever been that much damage in this state.

It really got no national coverage, but I hear about every tornado whether there is damage or not.

My baseline for being interested in hurricanes is massive flooding, like Kattina or what happened in Houston a few years back. I'm watching CNN and they keep showing one blown off roof in Houma. Where are the massive waves overtopping seawalls and buildings crashing down and being flooded?

And even if it was, it's a stupid post because it doesn't need to be a ******* contest

The government that doesn’t ever do anything and never works, did things and worked post-Katrina.
