Hurricane Florence

I was listening to the radio yesterday morning while getting my oil changed and a guy called in who was driving into the storm to ride it out. He apparently does this every year (heads to the site of a hurricane). The host was able to string this guy along for about an hour, getting a detailed description of what he was hauling (a large number of NATO-certified fuel cans, tortillas and peanut butter for sustenance, chainsaw, shotgun, etc), how he was planning on riding it out (parking garage above storm surge level, when it gets crazy he'll duck into the stairwell), etc.

The kicker? The dude riding into the storm is a commercial airline pilot.

Makes you feel good about flying, right?

That actually sounds awesome. I’m obsessed with abandoned man-made structures and I feel like that could be a real weird event where you could quiet yourself, reflect on the power of nature, and expand the recesses of your mind. Helping people would be the dangerous part, not the hurricane itself.

If I remember correctly, the place he was headed to only had 1 parking garage, and it was attached to the hospital. Not sure if it's tall enough for his jacked F-350, so he may have some issues with his ride.

Hopefully he calls in tomorrow morning to provide an update.

I think all media outlets are guilty of this. There are idiots standing out in the rain spreading panic on every news channel right now.

Almost every single reporter has literally been in the water or darn xlose while they are proclaiming the horrible dangers of flooding. Clear cut case of do as we say and not as we do, because well we think we are smarter than you.

Pssst, your inferiority complex is showing.

Please, the models are getting better but cherry picking one model and one run from that model and claiming accuracy like that is just nonsense.

That isn’t a model that is a forecast...there is a significant difference. A model is a tool used for guidance. A forecast is the product of skilled human interpretation of numerous models and other data.
