This has a story about Beas Hamga the former Iowa recruit. He went to UNLV on an official visit. UNLV sent him to the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Mayweather fight. We send our recruits to the Barbaque joint for some good ol barbaque.

Jody Demling - Recruiting

I would say we do pretty good for not having anything even close to being this cool in our town.

Fight tickets mist have been $300 bucks. We could send him an Iowa ham to his house. We could take him water skiing. Fight smite. We can show him live pay for view instead.

That seems like a gift to me. I know recruits can go to basketball/football games when on visits, but prize fighting isnt put on by the university.

Colorado got in a lot of trouble for the methods they used to attract football recruits.

Here, let me apply the "rolleyeyes..."

:rolleyes5cz:

I swear, honestly, if you don't spell out the word S-A-R-C-A-S-M on this site half the people logged in are going to take it seriously.

When I was getting ready to go to Boot Camp in the Marines I went to an establishment in Ames called Blondies. I think it's an Adult arcade now. Jeremy probably knows. Anyway there were a bunch of football recruits in the place when I went there. Pretty funny. I always wondered what they did when they were in town. For the record they were picked up in a university Van at about 12:30 in the morning. I always thought it would be funny if there was a coach in there with LOI papers.

Well, the only time I ever went to Blondies it was terrible. It got worse when I actually looked at the stage. I remember throwing up in my mouth a little when the first dancer came out. If this is where we took our recruits, it is no wonder we had 1-10 seasons. Geesh. It still gives me chills to this day.

Hey I did not say it was a good place to go. When I was 18 it was the only place to go to see that sort of UMmmm entertainment.

I worked for the coaching staff of one of the men's sports teams at ISU in college. We had a recruit come to town that literally 30 minutes after arriving it was clear was a terrible fit with the rest of the team. The two athletes "handling" him pawned him off on me after dinner to keep entertained, and then to drop at an off campus party. I did that, hung around for a while, lost track of him. A few hours later, he shows up just drunk out of his mind. He grabs my arm and says (slurred together) "get me laid and I'll sign today." He got on a plane the next morning and never heard from us again.

I forgot to say thanks for that night. We had fun. What ever happened to you?
