I go into store after store. Most of the shirts and what not they sell of college teams in iowa are Hawkeyes. Which makes sense because people are bred to be hawk fans. Then theres the fan that doesnt care really but just sides with them. Personally that drives me nuts. Even worse is when theres boat loads of Iowa crap and then there isn't AT ALL any ISU stuff. Or when you go somewhere and theres more Michigan or North Carolina stuff. It drives me up the walls. Then Im driving away all torqued and get behind some old rusted out truck at a stop light and he has this old decaying hawkeyes sticker on the bumper. Why does pride and tradition go that far for Iowa and not us? I looked on the cyclones.com hall of fame players. We have players to be equally proud of and seasons to be proud of. A lot of stuff I previously didnt know. I feel like ISU is shunned and were fed Iowa,Iowa,Iowa. Thats all for now..............

Sometimes it's nice to get things off your chest

I've noticed that it seems to fluctuate quite a bit. If you go to non sports oriented clothing stores in the mall, they seem to have whatever sells the best because of the team's success that season. ISU has been doing better in football and coincidently I've seen more and more football t-shirts for ISU, albeit still not as much as Iowa clothing most of the time.

One way not to boost/promote ISU athletics is by holding onto and displaying images such as a former coach fraternizing with college students. Reminding many of a huge black mark on ISU basketball.

But, that's just my opinion...

Your righ ISUfan that is just your opinion. Your also the only one to have a problem with it so far. It makes me chuckle. It was only a coach and a party. Life expands beyond larry eustachy.

Im not sure how a Dr Evil picture does any good either, which was if i recall a major black mark to Austin Powers. I dont get whats wrong with a larry pic its good to poke fun at yourself lighten up dude.

It's not only in Iowa. I was down in Kansas City, Missouri a month ago. They had sporting items for most of the big 12 in their stores and as prizes at Worlds of Fun. There were a few teams that were hard to find. Baylor was nowhere to be seen. Texas Tech and Texas A&M were occasionally seen, but still rare. Those 3 teams are understandable being way down in Texas. However, Iowa is a neighboring state, and it was very rare for me to see anything related to the cyclones in their stores. Target had a section full of hats representing every big 12 team except Baylor and Iowa State. At World's of Fun, they had a game that gave away basketballs. There were Kansas, k-state, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Colorado...that's most of the original big 8, the big 12 North plus the Oklahomas...but no cyclones....they did have North Carolina and a few other non-big 12 teams as well....but no Iowa State.

It was very discouraging.

I live down in KC and most sports stores on the Kansas sid ehave a good amount of ISU stuff they have the Mizzu, KSU, & KU stuff but after that they have a lot of NU and ISU stuff.

OK, I have another thing like that that angers me. I live in Ames and have looked at Waldenbooks in the mall and a couple of convenience stores for the Lindy's Big XII. All they have is Big 11!!! In Ames?!?! Also, the Strawberry Patch in the mall which sells team clothing and gifts is around 1/3 hawkeye. Makes me want to puke. How is there that much demand for hawk gear in Ames???

Larry should not have only been fired...he hould have been blasted from the state of corn aboard a rocket for drinking "Nattie Light"

I just always assume that they are so popular that they are sold out.

I was with the understanding that the problem lied with the marketing dept with the old AD's. I have heard that it can be very hard it is to get liscened to put an ISU logo on something

I was in Cork, Ireland a year ago, and they had an Iowa State polo shirt in a store in a mall. It was the Cyclone mascot with Iowa State written across it, and it said "Old Glory". Anyone ever hear of that? There was no other USA college clothing that I could find.

So anyway I guess we have Ireland locked down.

I definately think we need to do a beter job of emphasising the positive, not the negative. That is part of the problem with the register. Thinking that big black eyes to the program are funny doesn't help at all either!

Or how about this idea. If you want to get ISU stuff come to the games and pick it up then. There is plenty of ISU clothing and stuff there and you can support the businesses that support ISU athletics.

I was waiting for this type of response.

The difference between Larry & Dr. Evil is obvious. One is a movie character and the other is a former ISU basketball coach that embarassed the program and entire university.

If ISU is going to boost its fan base and increase revenues, it needs to start winning something worthwhile. Winning creates excitement and brings in new fans and revenue.

Thankfully we have an AD that is unwilling to accept mediocrity. Changing the culture is the first step in building a winning program. It may be tougher to be successful at ISU, but it is still possible.

I agree 100%. That and keeping our name in the media, in a positive manner, which Pollard has consistently done. Seems we've got a large-to-medium announcement that comes out of Ames damn near weekly.

Toss in some good wins this fall/winter - we'll be well on our way to bigger and better things.

It's your right to put up a picture of Larry, but I agree it is a black mark that doesn't need to be advertised for years to come. We are in a new era.....

I'm sure for those of you who live in Cyclone territory it is hard to see the changes, but I live in Shmuckeye land or as another website put it the "saggy-eyed parrots" land. (Derived from their logo.). Things are changing in the predominately Shmuckeye territory, people are displaying more ISU pride and stores over here are selling some ISU stuff. There is a strong ISU fan base in the Corridor area, especially Cedar Rapids. One thing that is really helping the ISU's cause is beating Iowa in the intrastate rivelry. We are gaining more respect in the state of Iowa as a team and they can no longer over look us.

We are on the right track to boost ISU athletics with Pollard, now it's up to the coaches AND FANS!

dr.evil ruined the movies, especially when he went soft in the 3rd one. but yeah you can keep hating on eustachy. I doubt hes the only coach to party with co-eds. I'd really hate to see what would happen such as the Duke Lacrosse team. I think some of your heads would explode.

Moving past the pointless Dr. Evil v. Larry Eustachy talk, a childish but satisfying thing I do is cover up the Iowa stuff. Everytime I see an Iowa Hawkeye shirt on display, I cover it up with a Cyclone shirt, or any other shirt I see close by. I know it's stupid. But, it makes me feel better. So, if anybody works at those stores, and you wonder why that happens. It's me.

That is awesome, and you are an excellent clone fan. You would make a great Cy. Keep up the good work.
