How much goodwill does Fred have?

How many "rebuilding" yrs does CFH get before you lose faith?

CFH could ring my doorbell and punch my grandma in the gut and and I would high-five him and tell him good arm. He was and is the face of Iowa State Basketball. IMO he will be around for as long as he wants.

I voted for five crappy seasons but now that I'm thinking a little clearer ...well lets you know....Make that Six Crappy Seasons!!!!!

This is really a dumb thread. I am guessing that the people who want to criticize everything are the morons behind this one....

couldn't be farther from the truth - someone in the NYT thread mentioned that Fred had at least as long as GMac to right the ship. Others largely agreed or said he had even more leeway - if he needs it or not.

I'm the OP - and he can do what he wants with my kittens.

This poll just shows the tremendous support Fred has right now - Clones21 excluded.

I voted 4-5 because it asked when would I start to lose faith and it also depends on what each person feels constitutes a rebuilding season. I can put up with a lot if I am seeing progress. I also can put up with a lot if I am seeing a program that is not an off the field/court/mat/ice/pitch embarrassment.

I am also realistic enough to recognize that a guy can be a great player and a great person and finally not be the right guy to coach. He deserves an honest chance to prove it one way or the other.

I think he should drown kittens anyway. It might be a good team building exercise.

I voted 2-3 since it said when will you START to lose faith. If we fail to progress next year with a full roster and all our transfers stick around then there will have to be some questions.

Notice I said PROGRESS, no specific benchmarks. As long as the program moves in a tangible positive direction (i.e., wins) each year then I will be behind him 100%.

The worst thing about the GMAC era is nothing every changed. Every season was exactly the same. Lose your leading scorer and 2-3 supporting players, under-achieve with what you have, 15 wins. Make excuses. Repeat.

I would say 4-5. Fortunately for Fred, he is following a horrible coach, who ran off nearly as many players as he signed each year.

Fortunately for the entire Cyclone nation, I don't think we'll have to cross that bridge. I think we'll make the tourney next year and the following we should be pretty good as well. That buys him enough time to get some good momentum recruiting so that he can reload with HS signees rather than transfers.

I think if we make the tourney next year ISU fans will be so ecstatic that he'll probably have a minimum of another 5 years of good will. Look what winning a bowl game did for CPR.

He will get plenty of time. Just needs to show up at Hilton and that will be significantly better compared to that last terrible coach.

Some will give him more time just because he is Fred, former ISU star. Some will give him less because they'll expect him to move mountains and/or because it was a bit of a reach to make the hire.

I was totally skeptical, so far I've been wrong. Seeing improvements is nice. We're gonna be outmatched almost every night on the floor in the Big 12, so it'll be rough from here on out this season. Looking forward to watching the team improve - even if the W column does not reflect it.

If this does not work, it's going to be horrible. For many, it will be a "if Fred can't fix MBB, no one can" mentality. Plus, I don't think any AD could survive firing him, even if Fred openly admitted he wanted to sabotage the thing and set fire to Hilton himself. You just don't get to fire The Mayor and survive. The risk all the way round on this gig is huge.

If this works - it'll be a success of epic proportion. Fan support of ISU MBB under winning Hoiberg would be the highest - ever. "Hilton Magic" could actually return. Giant reward potential...and that's an understatement.

I think any coach would get longer than McDermott (and McDermott WAS going to get longer too) just because we need stability.

That being said, I agree with the guy that said Fred could punch is grandma and he'd just say good arm.

Although there seem to be an unfair number of people pretty mad about a loss to NE.

I voted 4-5 years. I expect it not to be an issue. As long as we don't fall into the GMAC pattern of best players leave early and rebuild every year, he can coach forever. I got so ****** off with every year the same story. Recruits should shy away from a program that keeps losing it's best players, assuming they are not leaving early to go to the NBA. FH just needs to build stability and progress toward competing for titles.
