How good is Blake Hinson?

I think it is safe to say he has a Big 12 ready body at a minimum
Imo he could stand to even lose a little weight. Unless he wants to mix it up in the middle. I didn't think that was his game though. Maybe he wants to be more of a bruiser now. That would be OK with most of us I think.

Hopefully our staff is coaching him to take less mid range shots. Obviously can’t eliminate all of them, but coach him to take closer shots or 3’s when available.
Taking mid range shots is fine if you make half of them. Or 3 pointers if you make a third of them.

noone batted an eye at the amount of mid-range shots Monte took. If they go in and are in the flow of good offense, people will come to like mid-range jumpers

Agree, and what most people don't seem to consider is that if you are a team that refuses the midrange shot, the other team really only needs to guard the perimeter and the paint.

it keeps the defense more honest, sure. The thing about midrange is it is a great mix up shot if it is there and if you can hit it. If you as a player can literally only hit mid-range shots.. that is not a huge benefit to the team offensively (Hi JBev;)). But as a 3 point shooter, a pump to a pull up at 17 feet can be a great tool to use to always keep the defense thinking. Or a guard to be able to knock it down after breaking down their defender at the top of the key. Even if it's just one a game.
But the point being, a mid-range shot is not inherently a bad shot or a bad decision. I just think ISU fans have a skewed version of it in their minds at the moment (understandably) because of our offensive output the last few years.

Literally no one is saying not to take mid range jumpers. There’s a reason the good young up and coming coaches practice with them counting at less points than a layup and obviously 3. It’s not saying not to take them if that’s what’s there, it’s that there’s either an easier shot or a shot that counts for more points.

Bingo. I noticed several posts talking about what basically amounts to Hoiball. Or some that mentioned “basketball is really headed towards short 2’s and 3’s” but that was like 10 years ago lol. Adjustments have been made in the past decade.

Looks like he short-arms the jumper, which would hurt his consistency in game. But I’m the last person to ask about basketball mechanics.

I am also far from an expert, but I agree his jumper looks a little odd. I have always thought that if I guy is making shots that look a little odd, you just let him have an odd looking shot. LeFester Rhodes had a goofy looking shot.
