Similar scenario here. IIRC, the rumor on this site (back then) was that we had found a coach/agreed to terms and it wasn't McD. For the life of me, I cannot remember the details or who that other coach was. Then McD was announced a week later.
If I remember correctly, I was a junior high kid blindly defending Greg McDermott because I was naive and loyal to a fault. Wild to think it’s been that long ago.
