How can you not be optimistic?

Improvement is what we are all looking for from Iowa State, and that's what we are seeing
1. Offensive line looked great. A top DL player from Mizzou called our line the BEST and most physical they've seen all year.
2. Our Red Zone offense overcame the problems we had earlier
3. Playcalling was consistant and looked good
4. Running game AND passing game strong
5. Defense continues to play stellar ball in all areas
Chizik let's the officials know what he thinks. He was on the field several times at the Mo game. He stands up for his team. I like that.
We've HAD A CHANCE to upset two top nationally ranked teams in two weeks. With our depth, that's all you can ask for. A chance to win the game.
I've very optimistic for next year. Chizik is a man with a plan and it's showing. With the talent we have red-shirted, and incoming help, we will be much improved next season. We've all criticized the mistakes Iowa State made, now let's give them the credit they deserve.
Great post.........as others have said, I'm not into moral victories either, but it's quite clear Chizik isn't either. He's taken this team apart, and put it back together in his own mold. I really feel like they will improve every year until he gets ISU back on the map.

This season could have been very different with some decent kicking and special teams play. I'm in the same boat: I hate ISU being the 1-8 team - but at the same time feel that there has been tremendous progress since the Texas debacle. I'm deeply disappointed to see Blythe and Meyer go out with such a season - I really thought that they would dominate in their final two years. ISU may turn the corner next season if they can have a kicker and QB stand up and take control - in my opinion.

The team is looking better, and I like Chizik. I missed it but the person a couple seats over watched Chizik chase down one of the officials at half time as they were headed to the locker room... the guy has a pair!

42-28 doesn't look like a great game... but it was very close to being 42-35 (we stalled in the red zone at the end). If we hadn't fumbled on the first drive of the 3rd quarter resulting in the a Mizzou touchdown... could have been a bit different. No, "If's" don't give you a 'W', but I am quite encouraged for the coming weeks

I think the thing that impressed me the most was that we held Mizzou to 366 yards - while that sounds like a lot of offense given up (and it is), that was a season LOW for Mizzou - even Oklahoma allowed more yards than we did. The other thing is we outgained them in total offense. This was a team that could have packed it in after going down by 2 TDs early but instead fought with everything they had and got back in it the second quarter and stayed relatively close the rest of the game.

Chikiz has them still fighting. Thats what im most pleased about. Considering the record and the 14-0 hole to start, they regrouped nicely.

Perhaps the INT return was the spark they needed to get them believeing in the game, but regardless they played well after that.

I think it's a good idea to post links to stories instead of just copying the text into a post. Those sites operate on ad revenue (generated by visits to the site), just like this one does.

Plus... great picture of ARob dashing toward the End Zone!

The Missouri game (yes I spelled it correctly - there are no z's tiger fan.) was definitely winnable, and I don't think 'rivalry' had much to do with it, nor do I think the Tigers took us lightly. I'm glad we've been able to hang with some talented teams, and I think a W is right around the corner.

I think there are parallels with the mens BBall team last year as well. We weren't the best talent-wise, but McDermott got the team to incrementally improve over the course of the season. I'm seeing the same thing from the FB program, and it's really nice to see considering the guys could have folded the tent after the Texas debacle. Given the way the guys are starting to play I'm optimistic that we'll get a conference win (or 2, or 3!) this season, which would be a huge boost for the program!

I post the link and copy the story - that way everyone knows my source and can follow it if they want but also allows those that are lazy (like myself) to not have to open another browser window.

we gave up 42 points. That is not stellar defense.

You're right..I should have qualified that by saying stellar defense compared to what we had been playing, and with the lack of speed in our defensive backfield. Our guys played hard and looked pretty good against a spread. We have no depth at any spot on defense, so with that in mind, I thought they did a pretty good job.
