How can you not be optimistic?

Improvement is what we are all looking for from Iowa State, and that's what we are seeing
1. Offensive line looked great. A top DL player from Mizzou called our line the BEST and most physical they've seen all year.
2. Our Red Zone offense overcame the problems we had earlier
3. Playcalling was consistant and looked good
4. Running game AND passing game strong
5. Defense continues to play stellar ball in all areas
Chizik let's the officials know what he thinks. He was on the field several times at the Mo game. He stands up for his team. I like that.
We've HAD A CHANCE to upset two top nationally ranked teams in two weeks. With our depth, that's all you can ask for. A chance to win the game.
I've very optimistic for next year. Chizik is a man with a plan and it's showing. With the talent we have red-shirted, and incoming help, we will be much improved next season. We've all criticized the mistakes Iowa State made, now let's give them the credit they deserve.

Not to rain on your parade but it's easy to say something like that when you win 42-28. I'd rather get a W than sit here every week trying to find moral victories.

Gotta look for the positives this season. I don't like losing anymore than anyone else. But this is a year to build. We probably have some redshirts that are better than the guys playing, but I agree with holding them for next year. The players AND coaches are improving. It was fun to be at a game and see a team play toe to toe with the best. We did do that.

Comparing the Cyclones against MO vs the Cyclones against Kent State, I would say the team has come a VERY long way this season.

I hate to keep losing too, but the last two weeks showed we are getting somewhere. A win or 2 to end the year would really top it off nicely.

Huge Improvements ---

Great post.....I couldn't agree more. Now is the time to "Pack the Jack" and close
out the season w/ a couple of W's. Go Cyclones.

I don't like moral victories either, but the signs our team has showed the past couple weeks shows the good job the staff is done working on fundamentals and truly making the team better.

I know at the beginning of the season we were just begging to see improvement from week to week and that is what we are getting now, but I still yearn for the victory and I think we might get one or two (I think we can get K-State and Colorado) before the season is over.

Our players are working their butts off. A win would be nice for them even more than all of us. Two or three even better.

Good post. I didn't get to hear any of the game being in Chicago all weekend. But everything I've read thus far says we played pretty well. Improvement is the key, particularly for our younger guys. Nothing is throw away - but most of us figured this season would be rather "uneventful" anyway. We've had shots and been in a position the past two weeks to take down top 15 programs. Who would've thought that after week 4?

I was at the MO game, and it would have been easy for our team to fold up its tent and go home, but they kept fighting back. If we would have saved our time outs, we would have scored to make it a one TD lead and had a chance for an onside kick. Thats how close that game was. Like I said, we looked like a real football team. You would have been proud.

recruiting is the big thing with putting our butts in the seats...if recruits see that we pack a stadium for a 1-8 team, they will just go WOW, just think if we were winning all the time?!?!?

TIME TO TAILGATE AND CHEER THE CLONES ON DOWN THE ROAD, At least now I am feeling good that we will have a good showing and we will fight and we will compete. I couldn't say that after the Texas game. LET'S GO CYCLONES!!!

I believe you that it was said. But where did you hear one of their D-lineman said that about our O line. I find that very encouraging. Do you have a link to a quote or anything?

Well, it was in the Rag's published edition, but I'm not finding it in the online article.

I can't find the rest of the quote, I read it last night after the game on line in Columbia and forgot where I found it. This eludes to with with their DE Stryker. He also had the quote about ISU's offensive line being the best they've faced. This was in the Columbia paper.

Missouri defense takes a step back
Cyclones outgain Tigers, control the clock.

Maybe the Missouri defense was due for a letdown.

Iowa State’s Alexander Robinson pulls away from Missouri safety William Moore on his way to a 37-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter of MU’s 42-28 victory yesterday. Robinson, listed as ISU’s third-team tailback, rushed 21 times for 149 yards.

The defense, much maligned earlier this season for its inconsistent play, a week ago held Texas Tech’s top-ranked offense to 10 points and made life difficult on Oklahoma and Nebraska the two weeks before that.

Iowa State, which came to Columbia ranked last in the Big 12 Conference in scoring and total offense, shouldn’t have posed as great a threat as any of those teams. But by sticking with the running game even after falling behind by 14 points in the opening quarter, the Cyclones managed to control the clock and grind out 389 total yards in Missouri’s harder-than-expected 42-28 victory.

ISU’s offense only produced 21 of those points, but that was still its second-highest output of the season, while the total yards were the most the Tigers had allowed a Big 12 opponent this season.

"This is definitely a wake-up call," MU linebacker Brock Christopher said. "We’ve got to go into practice this week and see what we did wrong. We made quite a few errors. We’ve got to clean it up and get back to where we were these last two or three games."

When the Tigers watch the film of yesterday’s game, the first thing they’ll notice are the gaping running lanes Iowa State redshirt freshman Alexander Robinson took advantage of all afternoon.

It’s a problem that has plagued Missouri the past several seasons, and a long list of rushers - from Mississippi’s BenJarvus Green-Ellis earlier this season to Arkansas State’s Antonio Warren back in 2005 - has capitalized.

Robinson seemed unlikely to join that company, considering he stepped onto Faurot Field as the Cyclones’ third-string running back, with 74 yards to his credit in his brief career. But seeing him chew up 149 yards on 21 carries was no more surprising than watching Iowa State runners Ryan Kock and Greg Coleman gash the MU defense the previous two meetings.

Defensive end Stryker Sulak credited the physical play of the Cyclones’ offensive line for opening up holes for Robinson. Texas Tech’s spread offense certainly didn’t exact the same toll a week earlier

I believe I did read it on line late last night, but it disappeared, and I can't find it now. Again the quote said the I State offensive line was the best their DE had played against all year and they played very physical.

Thanks!... that is an awesome quote to have said considering the O-line was one of if not THE biggest concern over the offseason!
