I've thought since day one that it was a big mistake for him to own his own team that early in his career. Just a lot of stuff to deal with on top of driving every week you know?
He has done well with being a driver owner, just having a bad year so far. (which I love to see)
As a Tony fan, I think he overextended himself with Danica Patrick and just wasn't ready for that extra work/burden. We've seen it over and over when teams expand their cars. RCR did it when they added Casey Mears a few years ago expanded from 3 to 4 cars. That went poorly.
It increased Smoke's workload, crew, sponsor requirements, etc by 50%. And I don't think he's caught up yet. Combine that with SHR's lack of success with the Gen6 car and I think that explains the organization's troubles this year.
