Hometowns

40+ acres a half mile north of Huxley....although I believe it's technically a part of town now - stupid urban sprawl.

The regions are actually Crop Reporting Districts established by the USDA-NASS (National Agricultural Statistics Service). Makes it convenient for ISUE and others to use the same boundaries for other ag reporting, including as you said, land values and assorted survey info.

And yes, heathens in Ft. Dodge is an appropriate statement! No self respecting northern Iowa native would claim Ft. Dodge as northern Iowa.

I was made aware of these distinctions when I once told someone at a party I was from Northeast Iowa. I'm from Mitchell County, which as you can see on the map is in North Central Iowa.

When the drunken Northeast Iowan (there's a shocker) learned I was from Mitchell Count, I was accused of, and I quote, "trying to leech on to the region of beauty and awesomeness that is Northeast Iowa". I will never, ever, ever ever ever tell someone I'm from Northeast Iowa.

It is pretty country, and those folks know how to drink, so my hat is off to them.

I highly recommend you pop your South Central Iowa cherry at the Cumming Tap.

I've been to the Cumming Tap, but only had 1 beer before hopping back on the bike trial.

Born in Cedar Rapids. Lived on a dairy farm until I went to ISU just north of CR. Address was technically Palo. It's a long "a", not like BuBu Palo.

Page County represent!!
Back in the late '60's, Coin was in our "Cubs and Midgets" summer baseball league, along with Farragut, Sidney, Shen, Tarkio, Bedford, New Market and...Braddyville! Played first base and took a bad-hop to the **** at Coin. Think I cried the whole way home.

I know where Buck Creek is at - anybody else know?
Buck Creek is between Ryan and Hopkinton. How do I know this? My wife grew up on a farm about 2 miles from there and went to kindergarten at the school in Buck Creek. When we got married, they said the excitement stretched from Buck Grove to Buck Creek. We are about as small town Iowan as you can get!
