I honestly had no idea that the fan base was so against the hire at the time. Did not follow Iowa State athletics especially close until the past 4-5 years, so I don't recall the events surrounding McD's exit/Fred's hire. Just wasn't aware that it was viewed as such a poor decision.

I was at Iowa State the same time as Fred. We had one year overlap. I never actually ran into him, but did sit next to Julius Michalik at Dairy Queen in campustown one day.
